Whipple-charged Camaro in for upgrades - Lashway Motorsports

1 Attachment(s)
This Camaro was purchased by a client of ours who lives out of state. First thing he wanted us to do was test the current tune and the health of the engine as it is equipped with a Whipple Supercharger and full bolt ons.

Preliminary dyno testing produced less then impressive numbers (less than 500 RWHP with quite a bit of boost). The tune also had some issues - mostly with timing and AFR, and driveability. In all, the tune that was written by another shop wasn't done well, and hurt the engine.

We conducted leak down and compression tests and found that a few cylinders we're damaged. Most likely damaged ringlands or rings.

We're in the process of removing the engine, and sending it out for rebuild.

Once the shortblock is back, we will re-assemble the longblock and Whipple, and head back to the dyno for a proper tune, one that will support this powertrain for the life the vehicle.

Stay tuned for updates as we progress!

NICE!
I am assuming there will be a lot of boost and a more aggressive tune now. lol
What are the boost level goals? Running all on pump gas?

Well, for now we will keep this thing pretty tame, but the potential to tune it up when the customer is ready is there now. We have the compression ratio lowered so that we can run more boost using the same octane which in this case is 93.

Otherwise, he would be limited at some point to race gas, or a mix of race and pump which on a street car is rough on the wallet. The down side to lowering compression is power loss when you aren't in boost. You can easily make up for it though, so the trade off is worth it.

We're also running an aftermarket custom cam shaft from Tooley Racing which will get this thing moving out a lot more efficiently.

Thanks for the interest in our build.

Well erik this sucks! Another car damaged by a "Shop" not doing things correctly! It's a shame this kind of thing keeps happening! Sure you will get it fixed up like you fixed the G8 guys this past weekend!:thumb::thumb::thumb::clap2::clap2::clap2:
