Big Question on 4 Turbo or 6 cyl.

The question I have with more 2022 Camaro convertible's hitting my area. What they have lots of 4 turbo's and GM have's a problem with 6 cyl. not getting made. Yes the 8 is great but I want more of a long distance tourer. I enjoy running back roads, seeing small towns and nature. So you see I don't need a 8, I did have a big turbo 4 in our Equinox, with over 200,000 miles, no problems. I also had a 2017 Colorado, 6 cyl. with over 165,000 with no problems before selling them both. But never owning a new Camaro. Would I be happy with a turbo 4 or wait till my 6 cyl. get built??? Also up here it's cold and snow time for 4 months, so I don't need a vert. right now..:noidea:

From what I have read, the 4cyl turbo requires premium gas, just like the V8. Also, 275 horsepower is anemic and can be found in any sedan.

Sounds like you want a 1LE with a v6

When looking for a Camaro, I cross shopped the Turbo 4 and the V6. Went V6, regular gas, WAY better sound and stock for stock faster. Typically, NA engines will out last any turbo or supercharged engine.

tossing around a V6 1LE M6 sounds like fun

I have the V6 and my kid has a Acura turbo 4. V6 all the way and for spirited street driving and economics the V6 does well. The only time I wish I had the V8 is coming out of turn 10 and 11 at gingerman.

the manual has done 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and the auto is well under 3,400 pounds so don't let anyone make you feel bad about the turbo 4

lol get your head out of your ass. In what world is 275hp anemic?

I swear some of you have no grasp on reality.

I agree. The 2.0T seems to be significantly lighter than the V6, and isn't that far down on power. It also gets better mileage. And I'm sure it's very easy to edit the tune and add boost for more power if you want. As far as performance goes, it's worth remembering that 2.0T won the CAM-C class the one year the GM boys campaigned one. It was faster than several of their SS 1LE and ZL1 1LE cars. As I recall, it weighed 3270lb on the scales with the only weight reduction being a lighter exhaust.

Well, seeing as the average car has 180-200 horsepower, and the V6 Camaro has 335 horsepower, I consider the 4 cyl.'s 275 horsepower to be anemic for an American sports car in 2022. Especially when the V8 Camaros make upward of 455.

Now, just because I hurt your feelings because you own a 4-banger-with-turbos does not mean you have to be an "internet badass" and spew insults from behind a keyboard. Everyone has an opinion. You do not have to agree with an opinion, but be respectful while doing so.

I have the 2.0 Turbo in my 2015 Malibu (the same turbo 4 as in the Camaro).
My malibu is also listed at 3600lbs, about the same as a Camaro.

For a daily driver, it's a wonderful engine.
When I feel the need for speed, I just fire up my 2013 ZL1 and row the gears.

Absolutly no regrets with the 2.0 Turbo. And yes, it requires premimun gas.

ive driven both.bought the 6 cylinder because it doesnt require premium fuel and has no turbo/wastegate/intercooler to repair miles down the road.also like the exhaust sound better.but the 4 is not slow if thats what concerns you.

It is, it really is. Add a few bolt-ons and a premium throttle controller, and it becomes a near-perfect corner carver.

I've owned both the Turbo 4 (with an automatic) and now the V6 (manual), and I much prefer the V6.
