any reason not to buy a 14 Corvette

Im looking at a 2014 Vette with Z51 package no mag ride. 6k miles
being a 1st year model is there any reason to look for a 15 instead.
Iv read about block problems.

I can only think of 2 possible issues. There was a problem with finding some very fine metal shavings in the oil on the Z06 and Z51 optioned Stingrays. It had to do with a possible machining issue on some part of the dry sump system. The solution was that Chevy provided an additional courtesy oil change at 500 miles to make sure the shavings were removed. I'm not sure if this started in '14 or the 15 Z06 models. Should not affect the car you are looking at with the miles already have on it.

Valve coking - This has been identified as a possible issue on any make vehicle that uses direct injection as the LT1 engine does. Fuel does NOT come thru the intake valve and deposits can form on the backside of the valves. Search for coking or valve coking on some of the Corvette Forums. FYI - lots of folks suggest installing catch cans to help reduce the issue. Whether that helps or not, you don't need to do this as the dry sump tank on a Z51 also functions as a catch can.

As an owner of a '14, I'd say there's not any major technical problems in the 14 that were resolved in the '15. I think it would come down to the model year changes and whether you really really want them (data recorder, colors, standard NPP exhaust)

I have a 14, Z51, manual with nearly 40K. Flawless performance and reliability to date. The center console screen failed after the first year and there was a rear control module sending a faulty signal. Both covered under warranty. My VIN is 798. Really early production and a joy to own. Go for it!

If you are planning to track it don't get an automatic because '14 & '15 do not have the necessary transmission cooling for that purpose, consider them just for spirited road driving only.
