constraints

Does anyone know what the present order placement constraints are?
My dealer said that the contraint applies to cars with carbon fiber AND painted roofs.
This essentially means only cars with glass roof are being built.
This constraint is expected to run for 4+ weeks..
This is hard to imagine!!!!!!!

It's true, unfortunately. Every C7 which hasn't passed the dreaded constraint, must forfeit those two and substitute for the transparent roof in order to get a TPW in the near-mid term.

Ouch!!!
I take this to mean that the majority of new orders are now on constraint.
I assume that the majority of customers do not order ONLY glass roofs.

how the heck can PAINTED roofs be on constraint? it's sheet metal and paint right? i can understand carbon fiber roofs on constraint but painted roofs on constraint to me seems like the fenders or hoods could go on constraint

THE PAINTED roof is also carbon fiber...

well then, that makes sense Glen

i bet you can't answer this one Glen.......how does a company run out of parts so fast this soon into production? Did they not think anyone was going to buy these cars?

The cf parts are not being delivered from the supplier and passing the QC criteria threshold. Too many defects to use......

It's that simple......

That blows my mind. In the planning of the rollout of this car, you'd think Chevy engineers and QC would be there in the plants side by side with all the manufacturers of the parts that make up the Corvette to ensure no constraint would ever occur. I'd understand if something slipped through the cracks, but there have already been multiple constraints in the first few months of producing this car. I don't quite understand it.

Thanks for the answers Glen.

I know they got blindsided by the amount of people that ordered Z51.

But for CF looks like they need multiple suppliers.

binko 11-15-2013 07:44 AM

I can understand being blindsided by the percentage of Z51 buyers-but roofs???
All cars need them and I am sure most DO NOT call for glass.

I think some orders are getting through the system even with the constraints. I was at 1100 up until yesterday and my order moved to 3000 with a TPW of 1/6/14 and that includes the CF roof, Z51 and CF interior. Orders are getting in with these options.

SMYMK 11-15-2013 07:57 AM

I spoke to my dealer over a week ago. He told me that the Z51 constraint has been relaxed - so much so that mine should be here any day now. I don't know about glass roofs (I chose a painted roof).

Throw a party when you see 3400 and get a VIN, that's when you are on your way....
