Will I get more MPG with cam?
I know, I know, am I serious???
Yes! Right now my commute is about 20 miles or so and I am averaging 18.3 mpg. I drive roughly 90% highway, 10% city, BUT, I'll be moving near the end of this year and doubling my commute to 44 miles EACH way. I've been looking at some threads on here from the past decade or so and seen that some people have actually reported an increase in MPG on the highway after a cam, so if that's the case I 'might' be able to justify a cam swap...LOLOL This sounds crazy to me, but I figured I'd have to ask. |
No....but I dont find it uses alot more fuel then before.

You will likely lose MPG. But not due to inefficiencies of the cam profile. Instead, due to your foot magically getting heavier after having a cam installed.
The same thing happens when someone gets a louder exhaust installed. |

But, on the flip side. Mine went up with a really good dyno tune. I tend to keep my foot out of it most times. Also, depends on cam size. Just depends. |
Just got done upgrading cam and heads. When I WOT I'm pretty sure I can actually see the fuel guage move[emoji1787]

After my heads cam got installed, with the 3.91s mind you, I got 19.4 averaging 70 mph coming back from liberal, Kansas where I had the car modified. About a 300 mile journey. I was super impressed as I thought I would get terrible fuel mileage. I’m sorry for the blurry photo, but yep 19.4. 73,773 miles and I remember changing it at 74,500 to look for metal shavings.

I can average about 20-21 mpg @ 70 mph on the highway with my set up 22 mpg @ 60 mph.
|
My highway mileage post cam dropped about 1 mpg to 23.5, when I'm strictly only on the highway. My in city mileage went to hell. Just plan on spending more on fuel because it's going to happen. If for no other reason your mileage will go down because you like the extra acceleration.

Mine went down in the city. What cam are you thinking? GPI SS2? You've been overdue for a cam upgrade!:happyanim: happy modding

Ya, the SS2 VVT...
Looks like I'm gonna have to get another higher mpg car for the commute...kinda expected that, LOL |

Just get a daily and park the Camaro. Did a 500 plus mile round trip in my wifes '19 Kia last weekend. Four adults plus luggage and got 42 mpg at a steady 80mph (because its west Texas.) |
