Daytona Track night August 4,2022

Anyone else sign up today? They just opened registration for the 4th and 5th. I'm excited to see what it's like after I get to try Sebring in two weeks. Already changed to Castrol SRF and did the rear fluid and oil already. Might go get the track alignment done at Stingray Chevy unless anyone in Central Florida has a better shop?

I'll see you at Sebring. Blue SS 1LE. #21

I think you'll find Sebring is much more fun than Daytona.

I joined the SCCA. Do you get to pick your car number? I don't have any stickers ordered. Do they provide for this Track Night event? I would like to race Sebring the weekend after the track night, but usually work most weekends. I need to get a physical to get my Novice license i assume?

I'll be at Sebring in 2 weeks(June 16th) and already signed up for Daytona, but on August 5th though.

No car numbers needed and no physical either, hell last month I ran at Daytona w/TNIA in shorts and a tee shirt. It's very relaxed and hardly ever on the weekend...that's great because I love taking off work during the week for track time! Make sure you get the track pics.

As the others above mentioned, no numbers/classes or licenses (other than standard DL) are required for TNIA events. They are designed as an intro to HPDE/TE driving.

You can run in SCCA/Chin/NASA HPDE events without any additional licenses. All of those clubs will require you to successfully complete a drivers school (usually called HPDE1) which is a weekend paired with an instructor. You do not need to do this at every track you want to drive.

Most of the clubs respect each others driving schools, i.e., HPDE2 sign off with NASA is usually good at Chin, they may just have you do a check out with a Chin instructor your 1st session.

Getting an alignment at Chevy dealerships has been hit or miss for me. A lot of guys in Central Florida use Dynasty Automotive. The owner runs a race team in NASA and SCCA.

I know it's Florida in the summer, but I cannot stress enough, DO NOT wear shorts to a track event, ever. As a Safety Steward, we have had to refuse entry onto the track until the driver was at least wearing long pants. You are required to run windows down, you'd be amazed at the kind of stuff that bounces off your legs in the car while driving. If someone says they managed to drive Daytona or Sebring or <insert track name> in shorts, they just got lucky or the Steward wasn't doing their job.

OP - if you are looking for more track time, check out these other clubs.

AutoX is also a good way to have fun with your Camaro.

See you out there!

May be old news, but also be sure to look at Track Insurance. Your standard policy will NOT cover you for something that happens on track.

Please elaborate as I have run several events in shorts and never had an issue with anything bouncing off my legs. I understand that it says it in the guidelines for most track days and most people ignore it both at the firm and Sebring during TINA as well as when PBIR was open. The pants I see people put on are barely pants and wound not do any good in true emergency (fire or crash) situations. So why the insistence? I am not trying to start a fight just asking. I have signed up for the 5th at Daytona not because it is particularly difficult or challenging it is more of a say i did it kind of thing. Thinking about Sebring again did it about 2 weeks ago on the short course but have not signed up yet.

Doug

I was going to start another thread about track insurance. I've got a quote but was wandering what guys were paying and what they like/dislike about some insurance policies.

I'm used to the pants at the track deal. Been racing at SpeedWorld in Orlando since I was a kid. The heat doesn't bother me, born and raised here.

My Honda friend recommended Dynasty for alignment. I may go to them if you've had luck with them?

I may sign up for Chin event at Sebring later this year. Have to see what my work schedule does. I travel alot and it's hard to commit to a date this far in advance.

I carry track insurance for every event. I have used RLI almost exclusively.

RLI is the underwriter for Hagerty and (usually) Lockton. So by going to RLI, you usually come out a few dollars cheaper.

In my experience, RLI is usually cheaper for a multi-day event than others. The exception being OpenTrack's annual policy.

If you think you will be on track 10+ times per year, OpenTrack is the way to go, IMHO.

I have used Dynasty for multiple cars and they are pretty good. They will setup your alignment however you want, not just according to factory specs. They also have a dyno you could do a few pulls on. :D
