If not allowed Admins please delete. I am looking for my old Z28 Camaro. So far without any luck. I have the VIN and a copy of the original sticker. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Love the original sticker; at the very least you should make a poster of it and hang in the garage.

I might guess that if this was a (much) newer car, you could have a shot at running the VIN through Carfax, et. al., to maybe get a handle on the paper trail of buyers & sellers. But who knows if it would turn up *now*, especially since (and of course I hate to say) it is quite likely that the car is sitting in a barn or simply hasn't been on the road in ages, hence no recent DMV transactions.

(Still, maybe some sort of records request in the last state that you know it was registered in?)

I think that the gang here would be very interested in any updates in your search, if for no other reason than the methodology. And if you somehow manage to find the thing, awesome! Good luck for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I am still learning what steps to use to try and find this car if it still exists. Doesn't seem to be much info out there on how to search for a pre 1982 vehicle. My quest continues and I will update with the steps involved.

That works out to about $31,000 in today’s money which is still a good deal

Gen 2 pre refresh are my favorite years.

Have you tried a carfax? You would have to pay for it but atleast it would be a start to see if/when the last time it was titled, who had it and what state it was in.

Car Fax is looking for a 17 digit VIN. Struck out there.

Call their customer service and see what they suggest.

Carfax can help with some older cars. If the vehicle is a 1981-or-later model, you should use the 17-digit VIN to run a Carfax Vehicle History Report. The report will give you a basic guideline of owners, accidents, insurance reports, repairs, and more. Carfax Reports aren’t available for vehicles made before the standardization of the VIN system.




If you're determined to look for it, your best bet will actually be to try looking at the older car/Camaro community groups - Facebook/forums/etc... while it's possible to perhaps get some leads here, you'll have better luck among the older car communities most likely.

There's also the potential it's already been destroyed or it's sitting in some garage collecting dust by an older individual who just doesn't do the "internet".

As mentioned by Chief, what about your DMV? I had an open title for one of my parts cars that I purchased in 1985. They were able to match up the signature on my title to the original owners from the 1970s. I got lucky 'cause it was a DMV in one of our Northern Az small towns and the guy was a car enthusiast. Maybe they could track down the current registration. A long shot but worth a try.

Just curious, supposing you found the car, what would you do? Ask to buy it back? Ask to see it? Just talk to the current owner about it?

I would try to buy it back for sure.It would also depend on the condition. I also had a Hugger Orange 1970 but I can't find the paperwork on it yet.
