GM reccomends switching to 10W40??

I have a 2018 ZL1 M6. My son is a salesman at the dealership that I purchased the ZL1 at. He just told me that the service tech that I usually deal with informed him that GM has changed or "updated" the oil requirements for the ZL1 from 5W30 to 10W40. Has anyone heard of this?

0W40, not 10W40. Specifically, Mobil 1 Supercar 0W40.

That's what I remember seeing, and why I posted for a sanity check.

This is why you never let them touch your car.

The OP's son is a salesman. I imagine that he misinterpreted the tech's comment on oil recommdations. It would be strange for the dealership to purchase oil in a grade not recommended for the vehicles that they sell.

Or OP didn't understand it but point remains...

It's been 0w40 (15w50 at the track for ZLE) since before I bought my ZL1 1LE in 2019. Chevy isn't "reccomending" (sic) anything new/different on that front.

Go off of what your owners manual says. GM updated it in late 2018 early 2019 to 0w40.

Did they send it a letter telling owners that the new recommend oil was that? No.

5w30 is the recommend oil for 2017 - 2018 ZL1s and still is.

I have a ‘17 and I have been running Mobil 1 ESP 0W40 (now labeled Supercar) oil since 2018. Yes, the owner’s manual states 5W30 oil for the ‘17 and ‘18s but there are no changes in the ‘19 and above ZL1 LT4 except for some hoses wrapped in plastic tubing instead tape and a supposedly updated oil pump.
