Not too shabby... What about tq?

ZYBORG 06-02-2015 12:43 PM

Just saw it is 429 tq... Not too bad... Should make a good competitor to the z28.

Thanks, could not make it out in the pic. Should be great battle between the two.

And remember since it's flat plane v8 peak tq and hp will be very high up in the revs

Doesn't look that way. Produces 90% of torque from 3450 through 7000 RPM. Broad peak torque curve through 7,000.

ZYBORG 06-02-2015 01:38 PM

I agree, cant wait to see them both on a head to head.

So, what do you all think GM's answer will be to this? A Z28 with a lower price point, a 1le with more power than the standard ss at a lower price point than the mustang ? Exciting times we live in. :happyanim:

GM's response will be the LT4 Z/28.

DenverTaco07 06-02-2015 02:10 PM

vs. GM's outgoing platform +21HP, but - 52lb torque...seems that GM doesn't have very much work to do.

And actually, the R variant will be the competitor to current and future Z/28, and at 61K base, that's 14K lower than current Z/28, so they will have to figure that one out.

KMPrenger 06-02-2015 02:13 PM

As far as I'm concerned, a Camaro SS with MRC isn't going to be far off the pace of a base GT350.

That's fantasy racing at its finest...comparing two cars that aren't out yet...but its fun right? :)

ZL1 Spoked 06-02-2015 02:14 PM

It had to beat the z28 damn and for 30k less

ha...u are right, but it is fun to speculate.

would you think then the 1LE version of the SS would be more apples to apples on the GT350?
then GT350R to Z/28?

R package does following:
remove back seat
remove A/C
heavy duty front springs
engine oil, transmission and diff coolers
drive modes
carbon fiber wheels
better tires
CC brakes (front only???)
chassis tuning
chin splitter

this sounds more on par with 2/28? but 14K lower price, so that is where next Z/28 needs to be? Hard to know until we find out if GM has a new NA motor in the works, for now LT4 at 650HP is all we know - then if Ford does a GT500 with FI motor...???

I have to admit, that GT350R is looking pretty nice.

Thor142 06-02-2015 02:30 PM

The GT350R has a lap time of 7:32.19 posted on the rings official web site. That's only 5 sec faster than the outgoing Z28. The Camaro team should be able to catch it with a new Z. Probably not with the SS though.
