I'm hoping that someone has some good advice for me on how to handle this situation. Last week, I took my car into the dealership for a 6 month service and also reported having some clutch issues (had to press the clutch all the way to the floor to engage the gear, gears sometimes grind or have to double clutch to put in in gear). They told me that the clutch was fine and they could not duplicate the issue. I continued having these problem over the next several days. Eventually, I could only start the car from 2nd gear (reverse and 1st gear would not engage).
I took it to my local dealership and they have told me that the entire clutch & drive plate is burned out. I've never had a clutch burn out in less than 3 years before. They told me that I am obviously driving too fast. It's a Camaro for crying out loud...I have peeled off on a few lights, but do not drive the car to shit!!! It's a high performance vehivclr and I would expect it to be able to handle a few of these. They also informed me the cost of repairs will be $2,900. Also, it will take up to 2 weeks to get the parts and repair, so I am probably looking at another $700 or so to rent a car for that timeframe.
I can't believe for one moment that the issue is completely my fault. Is there any automotive boards that I can complain to, or does anyone have any other advice? I have to believe that this is a bit of a lemon issue. I think some significant damage could have been done to it over the 4 day of of driving with no clutch "between" dealer visits.
By the end of this, I will have spent between $3500 - $4000 on a car that hasn't been on the road for more than 6 months. Is there any way that I can recoupe some or all of this amount?
Thanks,
T.J.
