3800 or so, the same weight as a SS Camaro. They stated 300 less than the ZL1 which is around 4100.

Thanks, but I would think that with the deletion of the radio, A/C, light weight glass and removal of the trunk carpet and padding, it would weigh a little less.

Can't weigh much less than that. Zeta is a heavy platform. Not only was it conceived during the days when GM didn't really care about vehicle weight, it's a full size sedan platform.

So if you both believe that it will be close to the SS Camaro, why did they make such a big deal out of the weight saving at the New York show the other day. I would think with the deletions that mentioned, it must save a couple hundred pounds. That would get it closer to 3500-3600 pounds.

I think because of the measures they took to reduce weight, and it is still a few hundred pounds lighter than a ZL1, which could easily mean high 11/low 12's in the 1/4, and faster than the ZL1 around the track not to mention Carbon-Ceramic brakes, which I think will end up as an option on the ZL1. And from what it seems it's a stripped ZL1 engine swap to them, as compared to a stripped SS engine swapped machine.

It's no Lotus by any means, but I think it's great GM is taking chances to bring a car like this to market. Like stated above the Zeta platform is not good for light weight, now come 2016 when the Alpha platform is used, I think a 3100-3200 pound Z/28 is certainly possible, depending on how much the base car weighs.

I was just wondering as a Corvette owner, if the Z28 came in at 3600 pounds and the C7 at 3400 pounds and that is just an estimate base on Tadge stating that the C7 will be a little heaver then the C6 and the C6 base was 3333 pounds. So the C7 is rated at 450 HP and 450 ft lbs of torque while the new Z28 is rated at 500 HP and 470 ft lbs of torque and the suspension is setup for the track I wonder how they would fair together on a comparison at the track? Most likely the Corvette would come out on top, but I bet it would be a close race.

It'd be close, but not too comparable in my opinion. One is a track day, road legal car, where as the Corvette is a track ready sports cruiser, if someone doesn't have kids it can easily be used as a daily driver and even on road trips. A car without A/C and Radio can be used as a DD but not too comfortably during most summers, I'd be surprised to see many getting it as a DD without A/C.

And it seems that for most the market is different, granted the Chevy performance fans will compare the two, but I dont think the average Joe will walk into a Chevy dealer looking for a Corvette and walk away with the Z/28.

I agree with you 100%. In fact at a cruise-in last Thursday we were talking and we all were wondering just how many new Z28's would be ordered as is and how many would check the boxes to add the radio and A/C. We all have come to expect A/C in a new car so it is hard to believe anyone would order the car without unless they were buying it with the major intent to track the car.
I also agree that these two cars are totally different animals. Camaro v.Mustang and Challenger. Corvette v. Porsche Boxster an Cayman.
