Brembo expands Michigan plant to equip all C7 Corvette Stingrays with Brembo Brakes

Brembo expands Michigan plant

Via Detroit Free Press

Italian supplier Brembo has expanded its Michigan plant to produce brakes for the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

Previously, Brembo supplied small numbers of brakes to the $111,600-plus Corvette ZR1 supercar. This is the first time the company, which specializes in lightweight, high-performance brakes, has supplied all Corvette models. Its factory in Homer, near Jackson, will assemble the brake discs and calipers into corner units that include bearings and knuckles.

Brembo ships the corner units to the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky.

North America has become Brembo's second-largest market since it opened a tech center in Plymouth in 2010.

2014 Corvette Stingray Brembo Brakes Specs:

Standard Brembo brakes, with four-piston fixed calipers derived from racing, deliver exceptional stopping power on the street or track. System highlights include:
  • 12.6-inch (320 mm) front rotors and 13.3-inch (338 mm) rear rotors are standard and have 35 percent more swept area than previous-generation brakes. Consequently stopping distance is improved 9 percent
  • Dual-cast, slotted 13.6-inch (345 mm) front rotors and 13.3-inch (338 mm) slotted rear rotors are included with Z51 Performance Package. They have 6percent more swept area than the previous-generation Grand Sport and are cooled front and rear for improved track capability. Consequently stopping distance is improved 5 percent
  • All brake packages have fixed front and rear calipers are stiffer for more even pad wear, reduced drag and improved modulation.

Intersting how the new Brembos don't have the external crossover fluid tube.

No Brembo word & logo on the calipers in the live shots... but no complaints here, it also looks awesome w/ the black rims!

That is awesome, but does it mean 60-0 is less than 100 feet?

The 2014 Corvette Stingray’s Z51 Package Will Use SANLUIS Rassini Composite Rotors

The new Stingray (w/ Z51 PP) will come with a set of high-performance brakes developed by Sanluis Rassini. This new system uses the industry’s first rotor with a ductile iron hat and gray iron brake plates. This combination allows for a weight saving of about 18 percent and it improves the braking system’s heat-management capabilities.

This special rotor uses an I-Beam extension design, and not a solid one like the majority of the brake systems. It is also the only composite rotor on the market that can accommodate a drum in hat, a rotor design in which the internal surface of the hat serves as a brake drum.
