So what got you so interested in Space? and another how was communication done to the orbiter, through High Frequency? Or what wavelength? Or through bouncing off satellites?
The thing with Columbia is that they HEARD her break up. They were sitting in a room, not TV on, and they hear their spacecraft break up. How hard must that be?

Basically living in Florida and visiting the KSC so many times. You learn to love the Shuttles when you're a Floridian. Space Shuttles actually use high frequency and satellites. It depends on a number of factors.

I've only been to Kennedy once and over at Patrick AFB once, it's a great place and awesome to be just sitting at home one day as one came back with the sonic boom.

I read it too. But I decided to refrain from posting it. I didn't want people to feel too uncomfortable.

Awesome post, Overflow.
I will never forget that day, watching it all happen on live TV in my 3rd grade classroom.

I've typed up the STS-107 anniversary post, but I'm experiencing technical difficulties. Facepalm.

Those are the kind of times where you are not optimistic. Too much at stake. Im sure it weighs heavy on their hearts.

Have they ever had any type of rescue procedures implemented or is the challenge not feasible?

Before Columbia there was no such rescue mission implemented. After it was added.
