They're actually almost completely different, I don't know if technologies were shared, but the F-22 is built around being an air-to-air asset whereas the F-35 is more air-to-ground. Air superiority as to an air support operation.

Awesome program

Ps we also toured Lockheed when the f22 was classified. I remember seeing the very tops of the vertical stabilizers in awe. I irrc it was still black; not yet grey.
Ahh.. The F-22. What a beautiful aircraft.

Some technology is shared, but the F-35 packs nowhere near the technological prowess the F-22 has.

It's a shame the F-22 is no longer in production.

Agreed. But I can almost hear Pentagon officials still *****ing about the cost of that program.

They got to figure out what is wrong first before they can continue to build more. From what I understand there was way too many problems with oxygen system.

Agreed, but it's understandable, because in reality who do we have to worry about in regards to Air Superiority, the only countries really are Russia, due to pilot expertise, not for aircraft design, and China who has questionable pilots to say the least. Granted this is today and in 5-10 years this could all change and we could draw the short end of the stick.

There's almost too much new stuff on the plane, similar to the SR-71, it was so ahead of it's time. I mean the only reason it never went faster was due to the tolerance of the wings, the heat was so great the performance had to be decreased. Then again, it bled oil like a stuck pig due to the seals having to be built with expansion of airframe at speed, and burnt so much fuel taking off it had to be refueled immediately after takeoff.

Whoops, apparently they figured that out. Ignore that.

China had to use a clip from Top Gun to advertise their new fighter jets. I don't think they're much of a problem right now.

If Russias pilots would keep the plane in the air, they wouldn't be half bad.
