In memory of 9/11.. Where were you?
Tran, please keep this thread in General Discussion for today. You can move it to Off Topic tomorrow if you want.
I just want to ask everyone to take a moment out of their busy days to remember the American citizens that lost their lives on this day 12 years ago. Please keep politics out of this thread. This is a thread of remembrance. Where were you when you heard about what was happening in New York, the Pentagon and in a field in Pennsylvania on September 11th, 2001?

It was the second day of my class when I was 10 years old in 5th grade.
I remember all the teachers came in and announced it and brought in TVs and showed the class live news coverage of the attacks. |

Like it was yesterday, I was at work (United Airlines) when I heard the news that one of our airplanes had crashed into the twin towers, There’s a certain connect when an aircraft you’ve worked on is involve in such a tragedy as 9-11, at that moment standing in a hanger next to a 767, it just leaves emptiness inside you and in disbelief. My Heart and prayers to all. We will stand strong, God Bless America |

I was shelling corn on my farm.I stopped and shut the operation down for two days to watch the news.
About a week later I went to my cabin in Kenora Ont.I went to town to see the fire engine with a USA flag flying on top of the ladder in front of the fire house. I ran the slogan LET,S ROLL on my race car trailer until I sold it/ Let us never forget that day never. |

I was on the trading floor (chicago) watching the news and hearing from co-traders connected to the trading desks in NY that something really bad was going on. Lines cut, building rocking, fire and carnage.

Woke early in Monterey CA. The day after the '01 American Le Mans at Laguna Seca. I was too stunned to travel home for 3 days I sat in restaurants and bars and watched on TV with others!

I was by battery park in NYC which is very close to the world trade center and it was a coincidence that I was their on a photograph trip from High school. It was terrible looking and watching the planes strike the towers and the people jumping the collapse of the towers it will always be in my mind for the rest of my life and for people around the world and we must never forgot those that lost their lives and the first responders for sacrificed their lives to save others.

I was in Iwakuni Japan. On my last day of a six month deployment. Scheduled to board a plane back to the States in less than 5 hours. I had earlier in the day had a great guided discussion with my Marines about Pearl Harbor. We were discussing how safe we felt being at home, and how the country would never be brazenly attacked by an enemy on our soil again. Little did we know just a few hours later such an attack would happen. Needless to say I didn't board a plane 5 hours later. That day changed my whole life. I'd been in the Marine Corps a little over 11 years at that point. Had never been to combat, but had trained for it through countless exercises. Through OEF/OIF/OND I deployed 6 more times. Retired last year...I definitely will never forget that day for the rest of my life.

I was in the middle of a Typhoon in Okinawa Japan at the time. I was stationed at Kadena Air Base and nearing the end of my tour. A couple of weeks later I had to travel by air back to the US for my new assignment. Things were quite crazy still. I will never forget.

I was about a block from the Pentagon. We were suppose to have our conference meeting in the Pentagon but it was moved at the last moment.
9-11-01 was one of the most surreal moments of my life.....never forget it.
