How do High Beams stay on? Switch not working?

Seems like a dumb question. In my 2001 when I switch my high beams on, they stay on. Then I have to switch them off to go back to normal head lights at night.

My 2010 2SS RS is stock in the lighting department. When I turn on the high beams with the switch/knob to the left behind the steering wheel I hear a mechanical noise. After researching the forum I found this mechanical noise when the high beams turn on is "normal". But the high beams don't stay on when I release the switch. Is this normal? While driving on a road trip in the dark last week I had to hold down the switch to keep the high beams on while driving. This was annoying and difficult to do while driving and holding the steering wheel at the same time. This doesn't seem normal and I was wondering if something is wrong with my Camaro high beam switch.

Push the lever toward the front of the car. don't pull it toward you.

Why not just keep it on automatic?

hes talking about his hi beams only not head lights. you have to move it away from you towards the front of the car. If this doesnt work take it to your dealer. it needs a new switch. When you move it towards you those are your passing lights. You flash them to let the person in front of you know your passing them.

OP, theres no need to touch the knob at all for high/low beams. Just push the turn signal lever forward for high beams and pull it back towards you for low beams. When you pull it back toward you while already on low beam it just flashes the high beams.

Most new cars just have the lever pushed outward for Highbeams, unlike the 4th gens old school lever tap towards the driver to turn on & off.

You don't need to touch the exterior light knob for high beams. It's the left stalk that controls it.

Kinda confused as to what the knob is doing on his car now.

Would be interesting to see if the OP got this resolved.

The knob is for turning off "automatic lights". Clicking it one notch to the right is how you turn on "Halo's Only" mode.. Which is what I use most of the time it isnt completly dark out. Love my Halo's..
