so the title of this thread should actually be, "Don't downshift from 5th to 2nd at 100mph"

Side note: just out of curiosity, has anyone ever experienced when then go do downshift, and feels like you cannot put the shifter into gear? This is my first manual car and idk if that is a safety feature or something is wrong. For example: say I'm driving 60 in 4th, I go to downshift into 3rd, but it won't allow me to put into 3rd. I return the stick to neutral, then put it into 3rd No Problem. Is it something to do with RPMs, or speed? Or is there something wrong with the clutch? It doesn't happen all the time, just randomly. Idk if it's me doing spirited driving and expecting too much from the transmission, or its a safety feature. Thanks in advance guys.

Sorry to hijack!
That shouldn't happen

I thought manual transmissions had a lock to keep you from doing something like that? I know I can't get into a lower gear without having to muscle the stick there.

Sorry to hear about your mishap! I'm glad you didn't screech off the road which could've done something much worse!

A manual transmission is all you. I got the camaro in first doing 55 on the highway. Only thing that saved that was I kept the clutch in.

Yep, did that in my old Vette. Cost me a rod and a crankshaft. I got off easy.

If I downshift on the highway I always make sure my shifter is centered up and I rev match into 3rd

That said I went from 1st to 2nd, I was going then from 2nd to 3rd and I accidentally went back to 1st. I popped the clutch immediately so I avoided any serious problems.

You've really got to force the hell out of that shifter to make it go into 2nd gear at 100 MPH. I just tried this earlier today and I couldn't do it. Then again, I shift with purpose but still gently enough to know where I'm going. No point in slamming gears if you don't have the transmission for it.

I should have my car back on Friday, but it's a waste of $1300. That was going to be my money for my Welds and drag radials. Shit happens.
why did you have to pay?
if you have a 2015 wouldnt it be under warranty and they fix the problem?

A mechanical over-rev due to misshifting like that is definitely not a manufacturing or workmanship defect; no warranty on your own mistakes.

You have to force it in there pretty damn hard to get the synchro's to try to make that leap.

I did it at 60 the other day coming onto the freeway on ramp and slide the rear out like I pulled the E-brake.
