Fen, I was just at the dealer with my dad buying a 2018 Buick Envision Premium I. I was shocked at the lack of selection and how hard it was to find the color he wanted (bronze over chestnut leather). When you only offer 6 colors, it shouldn’t be this difficult to find what you want. Is Buick production down or is the other way around, that they can’t build them fast enough? Unless you want white. There are a ton of those out there. Yuck.

Well they're being shipped over from China, so it takes a while to get in a specific color combination, especially if it's one not many people are ordering.

I still like my 'codified' version of the prior Cadillac naming system. It was something along the lines of:

  • 'Letter'TS is for sedans, where the letter represents the vehicle size class.
  • 'Letter'XU are for crossovers & utility vehicles, letter means same as in sedans
  • 'Letter'LR are for low volume, innovative, or experimental programs ('LR' for 'Limited Run'). This explains away the XLR & ELR from the recent past.
  • 'Actual Names' are for the car & utility flagships. Escalade, obviously, and ... Fleetwood? El Dorado? De Ville? Ceil? Brougham? Anything else besides fcuking 'Escala'

They're sorta doing something similar, but with a number at the end rather than a letter at the start. Problem is, by having a common beginning to the name they all blend together more, seeming less distinct. And its probably less likely that you'll slip into a different model when you have to start it with a unique sound vs ending it. I bet a lot of people will say 'CT5' when they mean to say 'CT4' & vice versa.

And if they had done that, nobody would have to learn another nomenclature.

FenwickHockey65,

Is there any way you can find out how many 9C3 Caprice PPVs were built from 2011-2013 (the 9C3 option was dropped after 2013). Nobody seems to know the 9C1/9C3 breakdown.

Not really. I'm not sure anyone who doesn't work for GM in a corporate or engineering role would be able to find that out for you.

We were supposed to pick up the car tomorrow but now they had a problem getting it from the other dealer. It was the ONLY bronze over chestnut in 250 miles according to them, so my dad canceled the purchase. Between the lack of inventory and the inability to get a 2018 in the build he wants (they only have 6 colors and he isn’t trying to find a stripped model so I don’t understand the problem) I’m trying to talk him into an Acura or Lexus. It’s a good thing for GM people like my dad exist because he doesn’t want “one of those foreign brands” even though my 2018 CR-V was built in Indiana.

Press got a reveal today. They are embargoed from discussing it publicly until Wednesday.
