The ignorance is strong with car dealerships...

I am currently in a situation where I need to sell my 1LE, it's my favorite car, but I financially gotta....anyway.

Took it to Carmax. They quoted me $23,000. I told the appraiser, hey it's a 1LE, that's not included in the quote. He said, that was not a selling point or an attractive piece for Carmax, then he said that Carmax would have to pay to remove the aftermarket hood wrap if they did buy it.

I ran out the door.

What the heck! The appraiser must be on drugs talking about needing to remove the after market hood wrap! It's the 1LE package not something someone got put on ! He needs to be talked too! And 23k LMAO... I remember I took my 13 Lt /rs BRM to them and they said 18k with less than 2k miles on car that was only several months old ! dealers were offering 3 to 4k more! Some ppl had great experience with them and some had bad experience with them!

And those pesky handbuilt engines people are putting into production z28s are a pain to replace too.

At lest everyone knows about those aftermarket rims that are on all the 1les.

Seriously not surprised coming from a company that Circuit City created.

Who cares what they do with the car after you sell it...

You'll never be satisfied with a Carmax offer no matter what kind of car it is. Put it on Autotrader.

My local Chevy dealership sales people are really idiots. They tried to tell my dad at one point that all Camaro SS's have the 1LE package.

A 1LE probably does not at all fit the mold of the customer that comes into a Carmax dealership. It is not surprising that the price is low. I have never felt that the 1LE package would bring me much at trade in due to its lack of popularity when the cars are bought new. Its not like they only will make a certain number per year. They will make as many as they get orders for, there are just not that many folks interested. Ours will either be tracked to death when it goes or have 200K on it so it does not matter to me, but if you bought this car for an investment, you better hope you live for about 40 more years to make it worth your while...if then.

I know when we went out to buy a Camaro there were no 1LEs at the dealership. Checked their inventory a week ago, still no 1LE. This is not a small dealership, they had 115 Camaros in stock.
They are not easy to find and they will not be easy to sell. Try to find a performance Chevy dealership with lots of Corvettes, Lingenfelters, SLP etc. They will know what you got.

I don't know for sure, but I believe from experience that Carmax's business practices have changed in recent years. I have sold to them, or at least priced selling to them, numerous times over the last decade.

10 years ago, it always seemed that you could beat KBB trade-in value by using Carmax. Today, they low ball you thousands below even trade-in.

I know KBB is not Gospel, but something has changed with Carmax.

Another matter, look how dirty their cars for sale are now compared to the "fresh detail" look they used to have. Just makes me think somewhere up the chain in the company that the decision was made to bring down car costs all the way around . . .

Still don't know why people trade cars or try to sell to dealers.
They HAVE to buy below market value. That's how they make money.

Some people say they do it for the taxes.
The money you save on taxes is far below what you gave up in profit. In other words, you're giving up $2K to $5K to save $500.
Doesn't make sense.

I will NEVER trade a car in.

It's not hard to sell a car on your own.

I love when salespeople ask if there's a trade and they seem shocked when you say there isn't one. That's because you just took away one shell from their shell game.
I always tell them they can't give me fair market value and why would I want to give that money to someone else.

Trading is a scam.
