No need in upgrading the suspension unless you're going to track the car. Most people who buy a 1le will never use it to it's potential.... just like most SS drivers.

The 1le is amazing at it's limit but 99% of us will never see that limit or be able to use it consistently... especially on the street.

Get the 3.91's and long tubes and you'll have him covered at strip and at a roll!

Edit: This is to take nothing away from the 1le. It's a bargain for what it costs and the parts it consists of. On looks alone it's worth the money to most.

I have a 2012 2SS manual, already with a CAI, ported throttle body, and Diablo tune. Looking for some confirmation that the parts I'm looking at picking up will be good choices:
Magnaflow exhaust
KOOKS 1-7/8 long tube headers
Cats

Obviously the 1LE has a better stock suspension system, are there any good aftermarket ones I could drop in that would be even better?
If I were you I would go for a full 3" X-pipe and dyno tune to complete the power side, you should be way ahead after that.

Then for suspension I can send you a pretty nuts setup I've got all worked together if you like. PM me for details

That's actually HIS plan. He's leasing the 1LE for 2 years and hopes to pick up a used Z/28 after the lease is up. Instead of going through three cars like he is, I've decided to stand by my girl and give her a few upgrades

Those are great parts to go with. Nice choice.

That is a great kit, however the sway bars included are designed for the older style 10-11 SS. You'll want to go with the newer version.

Feel free to call, PM or email me anytime and we can chat about the details.

Aren't the 1LEs consistently registering higher number stock than the SS as well?

Most shops say they are putting out 10 more rwhp vs the same year SS. The Op's current mods should easily beat a stock 1Le with the same traction and driving skill (straight line race.) If he does those extra mods on the list then it shouldn't even be a race.

I would honestly skip the Magnaflow cat back for now. I would put that money towards other mods like wider wheels with stickier tires, a custom tune, trailing arms, cradle bushings, 3.91 gears. Things that will actually make your car quicker. If you still have stock SS tires then I would look into wider wheels/tires and sell your old setup to recoup the cost. I see so many guys who just keep throwing power at the problem and end up being slower because they can't put it down to the ground.

Yea, good copy/paste there of someone elses post lol.

Honestly, JUST adding 3.91 gears to a standard/NON 1LE SS will make it faster in a straight line then a 1LE.

If you did coilovers and swaybars along with gears, long tubes and AT LEAST 1LE/ZL1 wheels and tires, then you'll be laughing all the way around him and the track.

Get 11 inch wheels in the rear, sticky tires to accompany them.. 3.91 gears, and sway bars underneath and you will be able to beat him in a straight and keep up on a track (bushings wouldn't be a bad idea either)

Sounds like a good game plan. Would it be cheaper to just widen the 45th anniversary rims I have now?

It might be but that's not saving any weight and will most definitely add weight(not good). Look into the Factory Reproductions type 41 wheels if you need something cheap that will still be lighter or about the same weight.
