C7 track day - second impressions and special guests
This past Friday (Sep 26th), I had the chance to get the C7 on the track for the second time this season. It's a Z51 with the go-fast parts (e.g. magnetic ride and NPP), and no modifications other than a mildly more aggressive alignment (-1.4 camber front and -1.0 rear).
The event was run by CGI Motorsports and took place on Gingerman Raceway in South Haven. The weather was gorgeous - if not a bit warm in the afternoon (~80F). The best lap of the day for me was a 1:47.7 early in the morning. Check it out here, if you're interested. The car had ~1700 miles on the clock, and I was running without the rotor cooling rings and was on stock brake fluid. Thus, 15 minute sessions with a cool-down lap were used to mitigate brake fade issues. The car performed very well on this track and with the aforementioned setup. The stock alignment isn't great for track tire wear; the increased negative camber both helped turn-in and evened out the wear pattern. As reported elsewhere, PTM does eat the rear brake pads. I have been using "Sport 2" mostly, and after 2 track days, the rears are about 1 track day from needing replacement. Most likely, they'll get saved and replaced with a set of Carbotechs alongside a brake fluid flush and Castrol SRF fill before the start of next season. It's also worth noting that while transmission temps stayed comfortably low, oil temps were flirting with 300F. Next season will most likely involve some 15w-50 as well. It was also great to meet some of the folks from the Camaro / Corvette community that just happened to be at the event. Shout out to Becky D from Rogers Chevrolet and Kristen Lingenfelter. It was good meeting you, and continuing to feed the track addiction . |
