I say if you're trying to save money by driving it, you probably won't save money.

Flying to GA, driving 2K miles, fuel, hotel, and any damage.

We drive Houston to Los Angeles, Vegas, and Portland, Oregon at least a couple of times a year. We avoid I-10 like the plague. Typically we run I-40 and drive Houston to Flagstaff and then stay the night.

We spend about $2K on windshields per year. Granted most screens these days are OEM due to calibrations, cameras, HUDs, etc.

On the flip side, we drive ours without scare. No protection, no problem. I figure my future track use will hurt this Camaro more than the occasional rock chip from the road. And some of my kids will probably put some track time on her before she goes to the barn to become a "find" later.

For us, it's only a Camaro...albeit a special one. But not special enough for us to justify thousands of dollars into protecting...especially since I'll probably hit some gravel runoff on a track somewhere while pushing the car too hard on cold tires!

If you want a road trip, are truly going to track the car (seriously track it), and the trip isn't all about saving money...I'd say ROAD TRIP! I've never regretted a road trip and we take a lot of them. It'll be slightly bumpy sometimes, tires won't like heavy rain, and the road noise is pretty high compared to luxury vehicles...

If it's really about saving money I doubt you can, unless you: fly budget, stay in rest areas to avoid hotel costs, and drive on pins & needles to somehow avoid every tiny flying pebble. And even then you won't be saving much. Risk vs. reward vs. good times. It'll be a personal decision for you.

Oh yeah, have fun doing Cannonball Run 2.0!

Well just doing some quick math.. nonstop flight leaving next saturday is $209 phx to atlanta.

you figure an average cost of $3 for 91/93

Lets say an average of 28-30mpg.. take the ladder which if you run the gas down and be safe lets say you fill up 14gal each stop... thats 420 miles your getting per run. Thats about 5 stops.

$210 +/- total for gas.

fun factor... priceless.

DO IT!!!

If you will be disappointed with any damage when you get home then have it shipped via enclosed trailer. If you plan to drive it I'd definintely have some protection on the car whether it is clear bar, Xpel, or the blue tape.

A specialty enclosed transport is about $2300, and regular transport is about $1100, and there is always the chance of damage. The dealer is trying to find a carrier that can support it but maybe I want to drive it now rather than waiting weeks for shipment.

Would you drive it the 2,000 miles? I am also entering the car in One Lap of America this year (my third time) so the long drive doesn't scare me, but not sure about doing it on the factory rubber. Thoughts?

BTW it only has 800 miles on it and I am coming from a Z/28.
I'm in NH and bought mine in PA, granted it was only 300 Miles but i choose to drive it and I have a blast. I rented a car one way, if it was more than 500 Miles i would have flown there and drove back. There's nothing better then playing with your new toy right away! Good luck and Congratulations!

Drive it. The tires will lose about 1/3 to 1/2 of its tread life, depending on future use, but otherwise the joy of taking such a special car on the open road is a great memory in the making. Enjoy!

You can rent a Penske pickup and trailer to haul it on. We rented one of their trailers when we moved from SC last year and pulled my 2018 ZL1 on it.

Drive it - have fun. Have them put a clear bra on before you pick it up if you want.

See you in South Bend!

There is no way I would take a brand new off the lot specialty vehicle like this across country on a 2000 mile trip in winter. As others said you will loose 1/3 of the life of your tires never mind the wear and tear, fuel, and travel expenses.

Think about it this way by the time your car reaches your driveway or garage it will already be significantly depreciated due to mileage. Many of these brand new ZL1-1LEs quickly find their way to the for sale forum within this site for whatever reason. Spend the money and ship it, save the mileage.

Send it!

Car are meant to be driven. Order set of tires, get them shipped to dealer, swap out to some PS4S, ship 3R back to your house.

DONE - enjoy the ride as much as you can in ZLE.
