Looks very similar to the placement of mine and I don't have any issues.

ok so I double checked and was able to raise it MAYBE 1/4 of an inch. The ports on the can are defiantly higher than the ports on the valve/valley covers.

I couldn't answer that portion other then for "simplicity", thats the "easiest" spot to mount the catch can.

IMHO, the best spot to mount the can is just behind (or i guess its in front?) of the rad on the passenger side. It sits high enough up there.

Here's how i've seen a lot of ZL1 catch cans sit and ive seen a lot of custom made setups put in the same location.

Here's the Apex catch can for the ZL1. The placement is perfect IMHO and will work on an SS too:

It's easy to see the catch cans installed height in these pics compared to yours. It's without a doubt at least 2-3 inches higher up (if not more) then yours.

hmmm... could re-routing the lines help my situation? and also I agree with you that it needs to sit up a bit higher.

mines mounted low like yours, and it operates off blow by like a pcv system on a older car I believe and the height should not matter much and you should expect an ounce or two at least at oil change intervals....... I would not freak out......lol

OP
there are a few threads regarding the amount of oil in a catch can. yours seems to be above normal, as was mine. the reason my car had high oil collection in the catch can was due to the valley cover baffle leaking and not seperating the oil from the air stream very well. you can run an experiment by rerouting the line from the valley cover and connectiing it to the vent port on the rear of the driver's side valve cover (you will need to buy some hose though ~5ft is plenty). your oil collection should go way down. this should be replaced by the dealer, but it was impossible for me to get them to replace the cover, my car has been "modified". but that's another story, my dealer is pretty useless for warrantee issues. good body shop though
here's the valley cover "exploded" and a photo.
valley cover is 555 and the PCV baffle is 909
