Round taillights just don't work with this design.

The whole point of the C7 is to reposition the Corvette. The C6 was much too safe of a design, too much of just a evolutionary C5, and the long production run simply made the design grow stale. Things needed to change, especially to appeal to new audiences. And again, when the C6 debuted without retractable headlights, people complained to hell and back. In a few years, nobody cared. Same thing will happen here.

actually i see very similar lines to the C6 from the side. the cove and the lower sheetmetal looks similar too. i like the front end of the car fine. to me it's as evolutionary off the C6 as the C6 was to the C5. i don't think a quarter window and a funky rear end is going to make it appeal to 'new audiences'. i might get use to the quarter window, but like i said i doubt the rear will survive for 5 years without some changes.

looks better in a dark color where all the black plastic blends in. that's my criticism of the rear more than the taillights actually

In fact, I'm already cheating on my unpurchased ZL1 as I lust over this new vette. |

I'm still trying to warm up to the new back end. I want to see it in person before I thrash it. I thought the GTR looked like ass until I saw it in person. Pictures don't do any car justice.

The back end is almost overwhelmingly stout and aggressive. It looks pissed off.... |

1. there are more sporty cars in the market than there were when the C5 was selling 30,000 units 2. The Recession 3. The 5thgen Camaro stole some Corvette buyers away. C7 very well might steal some ZL1 buyers back. For 50K i'd buy a Base Corvette over a ZL1 just based on weight. |

The point is to make younger buyers want a Corvette again. Nobody's expecting someone right out of college to go out and buy a Corvette simply because that's just unrealistic (unless you landed one hell of a good job). But the first sports car you buy when you become successful, GM wants that to be a Corvette.

Appealing to younger buyers is just part of the plan, getting them into the showroom is more important than getting them into a Stingray. It could turn someone into buying a Camaro or another Chevy when they see they cannot swing a Corvette. And then a few years down the road you still have a potential Corvette buyer...
