It would be in name only. The car looks to be extremely modified.

Because it did not exist at the time of development:

Hans Reiter, Reiter Engineering founder and director, got the idea to convert a Chevrolet Camaro into a GT car during a stay in the USA in 2010.

Interesting car, $270,000 without shipping, or spares.

This Camaro was built 2 years ago....before the Z28 existed. Chevrolet had to homologate the Camaro to enter the GT3 FIA class racing and they did it several years ago. Basically the same way the Corvette Z06R is homologated for the same GT3 class. The Vette has won many FIA races world wide [ built by Callaway ] . So far the Camaro has not been competitive in GT3.

It takes a while.

I don't understand why these races are not available for TV viewing.

What a great car, got some serious power too. Crazy how they went SLA suspension on a mcpherson car. The damper positioning is really cool too.

Even if the Z/28 had been available at the time I don't think it would have made sense to use it. From the sounds of the car, they would have replaced everything that made the Z/28 different from the standard Camaro SS. 7.9L V-8? I'm guessing a 454 LS crate motor. Suspension is specially developed for the car.

Even if they started with a running car and the Z/28 was around, for all the stuff they cut off and replace. Why start with a 75,000+ car when the base Camaro is like 20,000? just would add another 50K to a 270,000 car. Looks badass though.
