Insurance / Garage Queen

I know its been asked before but.... do you guys with garage Camaro's / sunny day only drivers carry full coverage insurance? I have 5 vehicles insured with farmers insurance and I inquired about insurance for part time or show cars...and they never heard of this and this is not available anywhere in the states.

just does not make sense to carry complete full coverage when only driving the car 100 miles (or less) per month.

what type / carrier do you guys use for reduced rates on your garage Camaro?

Loop

I would at least carry liability. If you can afford the loss, and it sound like you can, then you should weigh the risk and decide. If I was at the point where I had 5 vehicles, and this one was rarely used, I'd risk consider risking it. Then again, I don't think homeowner's would cover in a hurricane so I might consider that, depends where you live.

Yeah same here think mine is discount for under 5k miles a year but really its only like 20 percent but you get multi car discount also its expensive per mile. If you can afford a toy car you cant bitch to much (just a little). Also carry full coverage year round on my boat that only goes out Sundays 30 times a year.

Also depends what insurance costs in your parts. I'm pretty sure you would only take off collision, so what would that save you. At least for me, Liability would have to stay on the car, and I'd keep comprehensive.

That would also depend if a car was financed, most lenders require full coverage. See what discounts you can get. You have low millage, multi car, home, automatic draft, etc.

I don't remember the proper terms, but there are two parts of full coverage (comprehensive and liability come to mind, but that could be wrong). In any case, one of them can be dropped for a car that is not driven (I suspect liability, as that is relevant to the car moving and hitting something). It reduced my insurance by over half (per month) for the time the car is not driven. My carrier is Country Companies.

However, if you are still carrying a loan on the car, your loan can dictate that you carry full coverage. When you make insurance changes, the bank gets notified. If your insurance doesn't meet their requirements, they will force you to pay their coverage.

I get 80% off for the times when I store for 21 days or more, just let the company know before hand

I have mine insured with Allstate April through October full coverage pleasure use..less than 4000 miles year with 2 other cars and a Harley. Camaro cost $65 month...when not in use I have comp and collision only at $21 month.

Need to get car insured for ONLY what you use...people don't get that. It's INSANE for me to have my Camaro covered at the typical 12,000-15,000 miles a year at $165 month when I don't drive my car that often. I had a 10 and have a 13 and have NEVER paid over $65 month when I have 2 other daily drivers. I have 6k on the 1LE...804 FICO and am only driver...rate will vary on zip and credit score.

You are ONLY required to carry comprehensive/collision on your car if you have a loan to protect their interest. Liability, property damage and other coverage protects YOUR interest. The financial institution dictates what the comprehensive deductible and coverage is. In my case.. $750 is the minimum. I carry only comprehensive (no collision) on my car November through April when not driving and in storage.

same. They know its a good weather toy and the current mileage estimate is 5000 a year... otherwise full coverage. I checked about dropping comprehensive only for the winter storage months but it really wasn't that much of a savings so I left it all year round.

To get show and parade only type coverage, you'd probably need a specialty insurer like hagerty. They'll write a policy however you like.

I'm saving $1420 a year by only paying for what I use. $100 month savings for April to October and $144 month from November to March...this is by dropping liability and property damage while in storage and only paying for the mileage I drive while Camaro in use. To pay $165 month year round is not logical.
