for some reason, that radar detector doesn't read around corners or particular "over hills".... hehehehe. No comment!

Ticket

I did................didn't even have the pleasure of getting pulled over..............just received a letter ticket 10 days later with a color photo of me driving my car around 7:00 PM one evening while passing through Lafayette La. The speed camera clocked me going 52 in 40 MPH zone. I paid my $50.00 and avoid that byway as much as possible.

By the way, I recall that the radar detector did go off, but apparently it was too late.

Detectors cost too much. $500 for the better ones.

Yes, depending on the band used (X, K, or Ka, but not laser). The problem is when the officer is using the trigger on the gun. In these cases you only get a warning if the officer is shooting at a car in front of you and your detector picks up the signal. If it is laser you have much less of a chance of getting a stray signal. The detector will save you from some tickets, but it is no guarantee. Your best defense is a good set of eyes keeping a lookout down the road for the speed trap and obviously driving at or below the speed limit. If you do get pulled over for speeding with a radar detector and the officer sees it, you have almost no chance of talking your way out of it.

If you have the urge to speed now and again, don't get a ticket without a quality radar detector. Some of the new ones have GPS and know where many fixed speed cameras are located. Even a cheap detector will let you know your being had, and maybe you can shed some mph. I just drive the speed limit.
