its a given that it will make at least 640 HP based on the CTS-V. With proper chassis, tire patch, auto trans option, etc.

GM has the LT1 and LT4...that's what they'll run in these cars. So the SS will get the LT1 and the ZL1(or whatever they'll call the hi-fi model) will get the LT4. so those are the numbers we have. 640 is nothing to sneeze at and when its coupled with lower weight, id say it'll be showing hellcats its tail lights all day.

You guys think maybe GM will produce a smaller LTx like a 5.7 or 6.0 for the SS, and use the LT1 (hopefully with a power increase) for the lightweight Z/28, and the LT4 for the ZL1? I know it sounds somewhat like taking steps backwards but with a weight loss and a more rigid chassis I wouldn't be surprised if the next SS was making 440HP to 445HP which would leave a decent gap between the SS and the C7 corvette.

Also, wasn't it rumored that GM was building a smaller displacement v8 for the Zora since the engine bay will be more compact. I do like the idea of an LF4/LF5 mid engine corvette. The LF4R in the new Cadillac ATS-V.R makes 600hp so swap into the Zora and there's a perfect car to dual with the Ford GT.

What would they put it in? Corvette or CTS V?

That was kind of my point. The next gen Z doesn't need to make 700+ hp to compete with the Hellcat. The wildcard is what Ford does with the next GT500. I'm sure they want to top the Hellcat power wise and it won't weigh 4,500 lbs.

Wouldn't jive with the tradition of the Corvette getting the new engine first, then a de-tuned version coming trickling down to the Camaro. I would say your HP numbers will probably be what the 6th Gen gets, but it will be same displacement LT1.

Word.

Chevy will have to take part to a certain extent but in the end will focus on all around end results vs just throwing more horse power at it. Dodge needed to do something and throwing 700+ hp was a very effective marketing tool to stay in the game else get thrashed even more in sales and performance with the new platforms from Ford and Chevy.

I do have to say this war is a good thing.

No need to chase down horse power.. For what? Have the best all around car out of the 3.. Keep the focus on making an all around sports car. Not a sports car that is only good in drag race.. I'm gonna say this until I'm blue in the face, "Performance is not measured in straight lines"

Yea , but do think that the Camaro needs a trim that is strictly for straight line! I think the SS! This is what most been whining about or asking for because the Drag strip and the mustang beating them all the time!

You guys are crazy if you think a lt4 in the next camaro will beat a hellcat. The vette can't even beat it in a straight line so what makes you think a heavier camaro will? Now the next gt500 will be the car to watch if they make it. With mrc, irs, and probably 700ish it will be a crazy car.

Magazine tests everything but most drivers only test straight line performance so I wouldn't say its not measured that way. While I agree with you it's just not the norm.

So far the z06 has produced equal and better quarter mile times than the hellcat, and that's with the manual. The z06s aero slows it down, wait until the cts-v starts hitting the streets

If GM could sell more cars for having 708 HP then maybe.

But until you see a GIANT uptick in Fiat sales for having 707 HP in a couple of models then I don't see the value in chasing a number.

Now if you go to the Full Size Truck HD segment, all 3 are chasing HP and Torque and payload numbers. Those lead to sales.

Where are you seeing that? Last I checked the Hellcat ran 11.7s, the Z06 runs 11.3s. Maybe you were looking at the drag radial times that Dodge sneaks in there. On street tires it's another story.
