just moved to central Texas
Hey all just moved to central Texas from San Diego because of work. Question for anyone who may know, I got all my cars inspected no issue (gotta love the laws out here!!!!) however I see that you need to pay 6.25% sales tax when you register that's insane between my 3 vehicles thats over 7,000 dollars!!!! i read online that they will give credit for tax paid in another state, is this true? Thanks for any input.

Bring your paperwork that has proof of sales tax paid from when you purchased your vehicles. you will have to pay the difference between the two if Texas tax is higher. If you don't have proof of sales tax, then a bill of sale or blue book valve will be used to determine sales tax. hopefully you are not transitioning from military to civilian, because that is costly. Happened to me btw

Welcome to Austin, I live right down the road from BMW (just off of McNeil). Remember we have no state income tax, so other taxes are a bit higher than normal (especially if you buy a house) to pick up for that. Now just don't be like all the other California transplants and try to change Austin.

The idiot politicos had a plan for slowing the migration to Austin by limiting investment in roads and infrastructure...."If you don't build it, they won't come!".
Well, they didn't build it.....but they came anyway!!!

Welcome! I also just moved to Temple and make the trip South on I-35 for work. If you like BBQ, check out Schoepfs BBQ in Belton. They are starting the free country music series every Thursday evening again. Great atmosphere for family and friends. PM me if you need any details of the surrounding area. I have been living in Central Tx since 1998.
