Advice on L99 Exhaust
OK, I know there is a ton of info/opinion on this and I've read a lot of it. To that end I will try to keep this on the straight and narrow. My fiancee wants her new SS to sound louder/tougher than it does with the weak exhaust system GM put on at the factory. It's the L99/auto which has AFM. As the car is brand new we will not be risking voiding the warranty by turning AFM off. From what I've read I think I've decided on the axle back Solo J-pipe setup as the best option for sound/drone/AFM annoyance. Before I run out and buy something I wanted to get any opinions y'all might have on getting the best sound out of the L99 with AFM still on. I'm not going to do anything as major as high flow cats, etc. Options have to be some type of muffler delete, axle back or cat back/X-pipe type systems or variants there of.

I run magnaflow and it's a deep mellow sound with no drone. Not very loud unless you open it up. Sounds good.

Is that a magnaflow cat back system on a L99? I hear some folks have issues with the AFM without the J-pipes. I see you're also in KC....what part of town?

Get a range device to defeat the AFM and pick whichever exhaust you like best.
AFM is annoying anyways. |

I saw those. It's actually my fiancee's car or it would have one plugged in already, LOL! I'll chat with her and see if she's game to have one. Just need to make sure she remembers to pull it before she rolls into the dealer for service.

Here is a good option. Before spending lot's of money. Go to the muffler shop and get a simple muffler delete. It's just as good as any exhaust on the market.

2. Axle back of your choice from Borla, Flowmaster, Etc. 3. X pipe in place of the factory resonator. AFM with any axle back sounds terrible. I have a custom X pipe in place of the resonator and I have a Cherry Bomb Extreme Axle back on mine. I love how it sounds, but I do not have any vids of it. If you YouTube Camaro SS with Cherry Bomb Extreme, you will see a vid of a Black SS and mine sounds just like it. You will not really get any power gains from these mods, but sound and that is totally worth it. These are too quiet from the factory! If I had it to do over I would retrofit the NPP to my car and call it done, but that is another story. |

Great choice on Solo, but don't get the axle back, go for the full Mach XL catback. The stock resonator will still kill sound. With the muffled x pipe included in the catback setup it really allows the car to wake up. It is wife/girlfriend/fiance friendly and car guy approved!
If you REALLY want to get it loud, once you quit caring about warranty get some long tube headers to mate up to that setup. Holy **** it gets loud when you get on it!

The Solo Axleback exhaust with J-Pipes will give you what you are looking for.

I had Seeburg Mufflers (great shop) install the magnaflow mufflers, got the resonator deleted and had them install an x-pipe. It's a lot cheaper then buying a full cat back and you get the same results. The stock piping is plenty at 2.5". The AFM isn't bad but is noticeable. I've since tuned it out. I'm up north off of NW Barry Rd.

A straight muffler delete on my L99 sounds great. I would suggest you try it first, you can always add an exhaust. As for AFM, paddle shift defeats it.
