The new 6.2L (L92) that is appearing in the trucks and SUVs is 403hp. I've heard with car tuning it will be more like 430-440hp.
Also I heard GM is developing a baby version of the blown corvette ss motor. Maybe this is the top dog camaro that we're hoping for??

That certainly would make sense since the current 6.0L being used in todays trucks only crank out 353 HP for the regular version and 367 for the Vortec Max version.... if the same differential holds for the 6.2L, then we are looking at a 440-450HP motor for sure.

I wonder weather the HP in the current truck applications is limited by RPM? They probably don't want a truck engine revving as high when its towing... if they bump the rpm range up a bit, and tweak the tuning, they may gain quite a bit of HP at the cost of a little torque...

These are the specs for this engine as it appears in the 2007 Escalade:

Horsepower (hp / kw @ rpm):
403 / 301 @ 5700*

Torque (lb-ft / Nm @ rpm):
417 / 565 @ 4400*

Note the low HP peak (at 5700rpm).

Lets just drop a Duramax in it. they dont even sound like a diesel but they can sure haul a few donkeys. lol But I would be very content wit 403 hp im not looking to build a dragster out of it or anything. Just enough to smoke the ricers. So what if the GT500 is faster big woop they also paid a $hit more than we will.

Certainly not an expert on the matter, but I would imagine that certainly has something to do with it. They probably also have different cams in them to allow for increased torque.

The different numbers in the truck are due to a different intake manifold (longer runners for more lowend torque), lower max rpm and different cams(as you all have mentioned), as well most likely a more restrictive exhaust (their backpressure targets will be lower in the cars).
Have you guys put any thought into the L76 6.0L going into the Camaro instead of the LS2/LS3? The L76 is the engine in all the Holdens, and the new G8. I think the hp rating is around 390hp.
Could this be the Z28 motor since they are planning on competing with a 300hp Mustang and a 400+hp (but very heavy) Challenger?
Then the SS motor would be either a blown L76 or a detuned version of the blown LS? Corvette?

GM might go soft on us to try and keep costs down by puttin a truck engine in a car. However, I see this as a big mistake if GM goes that way. The Camaro is a huge icon and its resurrection is going to get alot of attention. Not to mention some of its past rivals are coming back to compete. I would look for them to have a new engine humming under the hood of this reborn legend, not somthin the pulled out of a 1500 chevy.

I don't believe that L76 is a truck motor. But it is cheaper then the LS2/LS3.
Have you guys heard anything about price difference between the Mustang and Camaro? I heard Camaro was coming in high. Maybe putting L76 in to compete with Mustang GT will get them closer on price.

It has been promised that the Camaro will be priced within a few hundred of the Mustang... So for a few hundred more you get a better performing car with more HP and much better looks

I don't understand why everyone is accepting MT's babbleing guess as fact? Here is exactly what happened at the MT office......

hmm.....6.2 liter GM engine? Well, in a truck it gets 403 horsepower so it will in the Camaro too! Brilliant!

The L98 and LS3 are both 6.2 liters displacement, just like the L76 and LS2. I am sure beyond a reasonable doubt the Camaro will have more then 403 hp. Most likely between 425-450 horsepower.

Why don't we just wait and see! We have run some very interesting prototype and pilot engines at the plant over the last year and a half and I have tried to drop some hints but no one is listening, so I will remain quiet from now on. You all will just have to wait and see!
