Just bought a Camaro
Well like the title says, I just got my first 5th gen Camaro, 2012 2SS, and I want to increase its horse power. I immediately got an Borla ATAK Cat Back exhaust. I was very disappointed with the stock exhaust, seeing as it sounded the same as my girlfriend's Volkswagen Rabbit(slight exageration lol). Anyways Im still learning about cars, and I want to know as much as possible, and not just be someone who swipes their cards to add aftermarket parts, for imaginary gains. At the same time, I want to add some things to my car, to really make her my own. It is my daily driver, so I can't add anything that can't pass inspection or emissions test. I was planning on getting headers, but I keep reading that they are illegal because they remove the cats. Ive been told that cold air intakes don't really add hp, but then I see so many people who have added them. So any advice would be really appreciated. I don't want anything that shortens the life of my Camaro, seeing as I own it, and I won't be selling it any time soon.
This is my Camaro. I added some stripes, and red bowtie to match. |

Congrats on the new ride and those stripes are stunning with the rad tracer. They really Pop and make the car stand out. Have a read in the bolt ons for your car section here in the C5 forum. You'll find some nice easy bolt ons that will add power and even help your mileage ambit while your foot isn't floored.
Make sure to post some pics along the way with your build.

Congrats!
Since it came to you used the first thing I'd do is an upper induction cleaning. Then add a catch can. Since you already have the exhaust, add an intake and air scoop to let it really breath. I have heard the Z/28 intake is now available as an option. After that suspension upgrades will improve the handling and cornering. Lighter wheels will reduce the unsprung weight.

Does anyone know the difference between long tube headers and short tube headers, and whats the difference in the gains of HP, and Torque. Also has anyone had any experience with passing emissions test with after market headers. I would prefer getting some new headers as my next upgrade, however I can't afford to have a street illegal car.

You somewhere down in Houston? I looked at the license plate and my jaw dropped.
Get the longtubes, Texas has a bit more lax emission laws. More power over short tube.
