Dealer opinion help

Ok here is the story. Went in two weeks ago and was assured by the new car manager, my salesmen and the guy that's pounding away at a computer on the front desk that they had an allocation for a z51 coupe. So I ordered my car wrote a deposit check and went happily on my way with them telling me 6-9 weeks I would have my new car. Get home sell my current project car a 2011 Camaro and get ready for the wait. So today still showing 1100 since the day after I ordered the car. Email the new car manager says he will check into it. Emails me back says sorry we didn't have an allocation to order then after all. ...Assures me that the car will be accepted on march 6th that they will have an allocation that day and all should be good. So my question is do i wait till the week after the sixth and see if the car gets accepted. Is it possible for him to know that on the 6th he will get an allocation for the car for sure. Already jumped off one list because "your next" turned into two months of nothing after being told we will get an allocation any day now.

Frustrated Shawn

Consensus covers a two week period but getting/using allocations is every week. So in a consensus period a dealer may be told he will get 1 allocation but he will not know which week it will come up.

On March 11 the dealer will know if his March 6 order went through and on March 12 Becky will be able to tell you if your order made it to 2000 (dealer allocation used to order).

It seems to me unethical to accept down payment without allocation and not disclose that to buyer. I know buyer beware but that's ridiculous. At what point do you receive the tracking number for an order placed?

Labor smith are u saying the dealer won't know when his allocation will come up. Manager said he used his contacts and was told it will allocate on the sixth..the car was ordered on the 17th and Becky told me I'm at 1100 so I guess on 12th or 13th if Becky says I'm still at 1100 need to start looking for a new dealer.?

Overtime,
I had some troubles ordering as well. It can be frustrating. I would go in on March 6 and watch them put it into Workbench and make sure it gets accepted (order status 2000) right then and there. You should be able to leave with a GM order accepted, if they actually have allocation.
If not PM me. I live near Arlington and used a different dealer and was able to get my Z51 coupe in about 6 weeks after placing the order (and under MSRP).

Dealers are told the number of allocations for each vehicle line every two weeks but the ordering is done weekly. So if the dealer is told he can order 100 of a particular vehicle line he will not know how that 100 will be divided during the weekly ordering, which, by the way, is every Tuesday. Orders can be submitted round the clock most every day of the week (1100) but the actual matching an order against an allocation takes place on Tuesday (where an accepted order is 2000).

There are no "rules" to look to, only patterns. For example, if a dealer ordered four Corvettes during the 2012 model year, one each in November, January, April and May the pattern is their allocations in the current model year will come up sometime in the course of those specific months. And it works that way often enough to be a pattern but not 100% therefore is not a rule.

And in this situation the pattern is skewed because dealers who ordered three or fewer for 2012 did not get their allocations until November, even if they ordered all three in September 2011.

Laborsmith that kind of goes to what he said so we will see. Manager emailed me today said they will get their allocation on the 6th and order will be excepted on the 11th and should have a 2000 by 12th or 13th. Told them I would give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens then before I ask for my deposit back

Good for you.

I still have trouble with the system and I doubt that there is another person not employed by GM or by a GM dealer who has orsmith
devoted more effort to understanding how it works.
