Adding SOLO J Pipe to Borla S Type exhaust

I am currently cammed plus full bolt on's. The drone on the highway with my Borla S-Type is brutal. Searching through the forums I see there maybe a solution by adding the SOLO J Pipe.

Could this be added to the Borla system?

I'm wondering the same thing. I have the S Type cat back and I'm hesitant to go ahead with headers and other mods until my drone is fixed.

Are the mufflers round like the outlaws? If so should be able to fab some up. Worked on my outlaws and they did drone. One person even made some to work on the rectangular regular flowmasters.

Ya they're round. I'm just curious about the length of the J-Pipe from SOLO. I know its adjustable but not sure what lengths...I'll give them a call tomorrow...I'll post what I find out.

I just had it done last week and it eliminated the drone. Now quieter than stock at cruising speed. I have some great pics. Will see if I can post some shortly.

My mechanic and I set out to make as "clean" an install as possible so the J-pipes were hidden as much as possible.

I had mine made using solo's shape to go by. cost 150 total at my muffler shop and has adjustable end caps also.28" overall length(as measured from the top or bottom side) kills drone at 1800 rpm+ and -300 rpm or so. I had some drone still at 1250-1500 rpm, adjusted the length to 29.5" and all drone gone.

Some more pics...call Steve from Solo. The 28" pipes worked great for me.

We tucked the j-pipes up, under and behind the rear diffuser more than the typical Solo installation to create a cleaner look from the rear.

I have a little bit of drone shifting through the gears at the 1250-1500 rpm like you mentioned. I might just adjust mine to 29.5" when I get a chance to see if I get the same result. Some drone during shifting doesn't bother me, but at cruising speeds it is killer. The great thing about these j-pipes is that they are adjustable, and you can play with them a little bit to get the result you want. Also, if you make any future exhaust mods, you have the ability to tune out any drone those mods might create also.

My wife thanks me for getting these, and we will now have an enjoyable 9 hour cruise to C5 Fest III!!!

Just be sure to make each side the same length. It's hard to measure laying on your back! If you know the length now is 28 then just adjust out 1.5". I played with mine a bit till it went away, happened to be 29.5 or as close as I could measure.

Problem is now I want to get rid of the resonated x pipe I added first before I knew about the J's. Made my outlaws too quiet.Drone gone I can hopefully get the sound back!

Boss, I'm not sure. Left them at 28" which is what they came from the factory set at. Prior poster said he extended them to 29.5" to eliminate some additional drone at 1250-1500 rpm. The instructions say their procedure, if 28" doesn't eliminate the drone desired, is to "shorten by 1", if this makes it more desirable move in either direction 1/2" until fully satisfied. If shortening the j-pipe makes it worse, then lenghten it from this postion by 2". Move in 1/2" increments from here until fully satisfied." It's too late at night for me to figure out the math...but I hope this helps...

Cool. As it says here, drone at a higher rpm make the pipes shorter, if drone in the lower ranges where mostly occurs (1500-2000 typical) make them longer then 28.
