Go with the ZL1 and get an awesome car plus save 15-20K over an equally loaded GS.

Gotta say, with the typical year-end Chevy fire sale, one can get a leftover Z06 for GS money...makes it interesting. Personally I'm trying to hold out for a 6th Gen Z/28 but that Grand Sport really calls to me...and so might the Z06 for $10-20K off sticker.

But, I guess in most cases maybe 10-15K difference.

Maybe...but real world is tough because it varies so much from place to place. I know I can't get that much off a Z06 around here...and certainly not if I ordered one.

I went the other way. Was set on a ZL1 M6, had a 16 SS that I loved, but after the delays and after seeing the GS in person, decided to forego the backseat (two seven year olds who love cars) and go with the GS. Performance is going to be on par and I track my vehicles, so either way, it's close enough that the driver makes the difference in either car.
I have no regrets. Do I wish I had a ZL1 on the way too? Absolutely. I give credit to Chevy, both cars are stellar and you can't go wrong either way, just a matter of which one makes your heart flutter a little bit more. Good luck!

I'm a big Corvette fan, have owned three including the C6 Z06 I sold to get my SS, and the C5 that I currently own. The GS is a really nice car combining the best qualities of the Stingray and Z06. It may handle as well or even a little better than the ZL1 but it will not out accelerate it. The ZL1 with the A10 is a beast and a performance bargain with the level of handling and QM times it's capable of. Once the car gets into the hands of owners and broken in I predict you will see even quicker times than what GM published. It's too good to pass up IMO.

The GS and the ZL1 are such two completely different cars in so many ways they should not even be compared.
And having owned two C7 Vettes, there really is no use comparing even the ZL1 against the Z06. Yes - they share the LT4 but the comparisons should end there. The Vette drives and handles so much differently than the Camaro platform and both have some advantages, not all of which are performance based. Both are awesome. But they are not competitors.

With a set of Sport Cup tires (or similar), it's entirely possible that the ZL1 could keep up with a Grand Sport around a track...at least that's what the numbers suggest...so in terms of performance, we're not talking about different leagues... But they're both going to feel dramatically different, because they go about it differently. |
