2013 camaro zl1
I am new to this site, and in the process of purchasing a 2013 camaro zl1. I have never had a camaro before and many friends are telling me to go with the mustang. I didn't know who else to go to so I came here for help, why should I choose the zl1 over the gt500?

ZL1 is the better vehicle in many ways, too many to list.

It depends what the primary purpose of the car is though - will it be a daily driver? Will it be taken to the track?

gt500 is a great car. you will be happy with either. What type of motorsport, if any, do you plan to use this car for?
The ZL1 will be easier to drive fast around a track/through twisty roads. The ZL1 is more comfortable as a Grand Touring vehicle. In a straight line, the gt500 is superior, and responds well to simple modifications (so does the ZL1, but you have more HP to work with at the beginning in the gt500, and a bigger blower) I chose the ZL1 because I'm a chevy man and I love the car. It's amazing, and drives really well. In the end, the decision is yours. You'll be happy with either car - unless you're one of those people that doesn't understand that every now and then, mass produced cars might have some issues. Remember you're buying either a chevy or a ford, not a Mercedes or BMW. The interior will not be reminiscent of a billionaire's parlor. |

Mustang with the right driver is faster in a straight line. Camaro with just about any driver is faster in the corners. Camaro costs less, has more front seat leg room, has a better warranty and has a better suspension. Mustang has a facory installed cold air kit. Same tires, same brakes, both are faster than most people can handle.

There are several magazine articles out there that compare the two in many different ways. I believe that most of them are availble to read on this site. I know there are ones from Motor Trend and Car and Driver etc. Here is some light reading to get you started.

I wouldn't rely on your "friends" to make your decision for you. Neither would I rely on members of a Camaro forum. You probably asked a similar question on a Mustang forum. All this aside, go with what your heart tells you.

go drive both. Ive never driven anything newer than a 97 cobra mustang, and the decision was easy for me. ZL1 all day long. will turn more heads, and get more attention. GT500 is just another mustang. Sure it has more straight line power but so can anything you spend that kind of money on.

the ZL1 is an absolutely awesome car!! i myself am never not surprised with the capabilities of the car. It handles its power very well, and is quite pleasant to drive, you just have to respect it more than the average car. the GT500 will be faster in a straight line, slightly louder, and much more brutal to drive. The ZL1 will be some what slower than the pony, but still stupid fast, it will have better handling and it will be more stable in the corners. At the end of the day, they both are awesome cars and would be thrilled to own either. It just comes down to what you want, Ford and Chevy have two very different opinions on what makes up a great muscle car.

Both are amazing muscle cars. I chose the ZL1 because of its uniqueness, track capabilities and strangely enough the dominating exhaust note. My city is overrunned by mustangs, therefore, a ZL1 was the perfect choice. Makes driving more fun. And a black, ecf, zl1 looks absolutely sinister, i wasnt a fan of all those gt500 boyish decals and stripes. Comparing with my brothers mustang, the build quality of the camaro is in my opinion is much more solid, however the paint is much better on the mustang. The zl1 drive is great, very sharp, and tight. The mustang has a good drive but somethings missing. Each person has their opinion, you are new to mustangs and camaro and the only way to really appreciate one or the other would have been to grow up with them.( either family or friends had one or you had previous models)
One last note you made the best choice !!!!! (my biased opinion) the all mighty ZED. |

I looked at both. Decided on Camaro for all around performance, styling and feel.
One thing to note is the Mustang will be all new next year. We have won lots of business on the new program. Also have lots of business on Camaro. |
