As Becky posted, the computer server often can start accepting orders before pricing is released. On most cars no one notices but in the cases of the Corvette C6 and the 5th Gen Camaro many people had orders in before pricing became officially available. I think the Camaro pricing came out October 13 and orders were accepted beginning October 15, 2008.

The computer started accepting C6 orders in May 2004 and if I recall correctly the pricing did not come out until after July 4.

Chevy did do a one per dealer run of V6 Camaros at the start of regular production in March 2009 officially as demos but as far as I remember each was sold upon arrival. I do not see the company doing this for the Stingray but that action may be the source of this rumor.

Becky, I in the past drove Corvettes but have not since I no longer have vision in my left eye but I remain a fan. Looking forward to seeing more info which you seem so able to provide.
