We bought my daughter a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon AWD... have really been impressed with it. From a Honda Ridgeline and Toyota 4Runner owner.

I’m impressed she is up for driving anything else. I thought going in it would be Honda or else. Thanks everyone. |

Hey Dan. Have you considered a GMC Terrain? My DD is a '15. Had an '11 Equinox before that. The Terrain IMO has better styling and more features. At least the '15 did. Absolutely no issues so far at 27k miles.

Thanks Mark. I asked her about it, but she said it’s too boxy. It was one of the first round of cuts.

I asked her about the Mazda again since as they are no longer part of Ford, I’d consider them and she said she’d look. I got the newest issue of car & driver tonight and the CX-5 made thier top 10 list.

My wife had two previous gen Equinox's, just got a new one. Every one has been trouble free.

Even the new one? It's less boxy, still kind of a polarizing design though.

I honestly think it’s going to come down to she wants the Honda and I’ll want the Toyota. Friends of our were shopping yesterday and narrowed it down to the Tiguan and RAV4. His wife is from Germany and has a blind Volkswagen obsession. He said of the 5 they looked at over two days and drove, the RAV4 was his clear favorite, but he said he’s letting her pick. |

Update:
Wednesday we go test drive hopefully all three. I was trying to get the new Terrain in the test group, but almost $40k with a 1.5L turbo 4? You got to be kidding me. Our friends drove 5 and while him and I thought for sure his wife would pick the Volkswagen being from Germany herself, she picked the RAV4. It’s still my first choice, but I want to see how the Chevy drives. I still have such low hopes & expectations with GM dealers lately. |

You'd have to tick a few options boxes to get a 1.5T to $40k. They're easily had in the high 20s - low 30s well equipped.

It’s possible I was reading the standard features and missed the 2.0T as an option in the final price. It’s still up there in cost. The one I was looking at was close to $33k and didn’t even have leather.
Her minimum options are heated leather seats driver & passenger with memory and AWD. I want a sunroof. Otherwise it’s open, but we definitely prefer loaded cars over lower models. |

Final update:
We drove all three. Going in I SO wanted to pick the Toyota, but being honest I was disappointed. Of the three it was the smallest inside and rode the worst. After much discussion, we bought a 2018 Honda CR-V in EX-L trim. It blew me away as the clear best choice. I did my best to be fully objective as the Honda was my THIRD choice going in, so for it to win me over it had to be the best. She makes a nice garage mate for the Camaro though as it’s black with black leather interior. |
