Catch can installed, is this normal?
I installed the catch can last night and this morning I drove to cars and coffee, checked my can and saw what I think is a lot of oil for only driving 35 miles. I took the picture when I got home and the total miles driven was about 75-80. is this normal or did I mess up the install?

Were you driving like you stole it ? Were you reveing past 5500 rpm ? If not that should not be in only 75 miles .That looks like a nice neat install ,and looks right to me .

I may have got on it a little, but not excessively.

That seems pretty excessive. I've had mine on for a couple weeks and only got a few drips out of it

Valley cover might be leaking

Not sure how much is "normal" but I've gone almost 1000 miles since my install and I have just a tad more than that.

Its hard to tell from the pictures, but how far down is the catchcan mounted??
The can is supposed to be mounted up higher then the ports on the Valvecover and/or valleycover. If the can and its associated 'feed' line is mounted down lower then where the ports are, you're going to get an excessive amount of oil in the can.

the can is mounted as high up as it can be(if that's what your referring to)
also it has 24k miles, 2010 ls3, if any of that is relevant

Bottom line is, if your catch can is sitting down low/lower then the PCV and Valley cover ports where the catch can draws the oil from, then you will prematurely fill the can with more oil then whats normal, as some of that would drain back into the motor instead of into the can. Get it? I see the mounting tab you have on your block beside the tensioner, but like i said, its hard to tell in the pic how high UP the can is sitting.

if you want to mount it higher on the same tab , make a extension out of a piece of mtl .

I understand what you guys are saying, but if its mounted as high as it can with the parts supplied, why would elite not extend the mounting bracket to ensure this problem wouldn't happen? What kind of sense does it make that the buyer has to fab up an extension piece to make it function properly?
