Good point albeit race teams also do a mild rebuild between races too and at least replace valve springs and such
I average 4-5 days, which seems to coincide with about 50% used or above it. Have used the same principle on my Vette for many yrs, during which the motor ran very strong (and still does for a new owner - on a 15 year old car with no rebuild save for new valve springs).

As far as the HP Manual: so 2018s don't come with a printed version? My 2017 did and there was no ref to online version...

So tried to access the HP Supplement via MyGM ca but it is NOT there. Perhaps because my car is a 2017 and content seems VIM managed...

I just selected the year make and model and didn't enter a VIN number. I would assume if you enter a Vin, it will select what's appropriate for your vehicle year.

Also make sure it's not automatically logging you in if you've already registered with my.gm.ca.

Well I do have an established id and such so it automatically links it with the VIN numbers.
Are u suggesting I should establish another, net new, user ID? Thx!

Additional point of data. I did 4 events ~6.5 hrs on track and ~2,500 miles on this oil and all looks good.

This is an excellent piece of info hence thank you for posting it! Here's my take on changing oil et al:

With regular driving, I change oil at 50% for all of my vehicles. At about $100 per, I look at it as a conservative and cheap insurance. Of course 1LE oil change is closer to $250...

Now wrt GM recommending changing oil after 2 track days I think there is a bit of a catch here.
The manual says one should replace oil every 7500 miles, or even just once per year. That's a very long interval imo. What it also means, is that they likely took the worst possible situation: somebody putting in say 6000 miles and THEN tracking a car.
At this stage Oil Life indicator would still be in a "green", but clearly the oil would be pretty close to the end of its life. Hence, I believe, GM's conservative recommendation.

But, if one were to start with new oil and then track their car 2 days with some DD clearly this wouldn't necessitate a change just yet.

So, I do guide myself by the Oil Life display, but use a very conservative number as a threshold and never track my car at below 50%. So for example, if I am at 40% and have a 3 day event coming up I will change oil before it. Etc.

Bottom line, it all pretty much translates to about 2000-2500 miles between changes, which is about a third of the recommended interval. And yes, the oil comes our pretty darn clean (and your attached analysis proves it).

Would I push it further than that including track duty? No. As I'd wish to ensure I maintain as clean an oil as possible at all times.

Again, thanks for posting the chart - excellent piece of data! Cheers!

So is the Valvoline MST 5w40 the oil I want to run then. Seems like its zinc lvl is a little lower than mobil 1.

Yes. The Valvoline MST is now officially Dexos2 certified as well.

After long thinking of this oil issue. Mobil 1 around me is about 23 to 25 bucks for a 5 gallon jug. Valvoline is 9.98 a quart. So I am going to run mobil 5w30 on the street and change in the mobile 15w50 for the track as I would change my oil before and after the track day anyway because thats how I am.

Mobil 15w50 is listed as an option in the performance manual.

Mobil with an AC Delco filter will be roughly 58 a change and valvoline will be roughly 110 or more.

So...You'll save $ on one hand, but waste $ on the other hand?

So the Valvoline MST 5W40 is good for track and street use? My car is not daily driven only weekends. Doing my first oil change so curious. Would rather not switch oils too often for track and street use but I do understand the need to do so as oil breaks down quicker with high track use.

Yessir - correct. Dexos2 5w40 and dexos2 0w40 are good for both track and street. 15w50 is good for track only and requires to be changed after a track duty.
Per the High Performance Supplement manual.
