Anybody know for sure if the ZL1 axles are different than the SS?

Assume so, but can't find anything in print...I wonder if the whole E-LSD/axles assembly is beefed up?

It was in the 5th gen. I have asked repeated the same question for the 6th gen with no definitive confirmation. If you are dragging your car this is a big deal.

I think the gen 5 SS 1LE had zl1 half shafts, the normal SS had weaker ones.

It's a great question I hope someone has a definitive answer for it, especially after a recent post about the "fireball camaro" that broke an axle doing 1/4 mile runs.

GM doesn't know. Lol I did "chat" with GM on the wheel offset and the dry sump and they didn't know. They put me in touch with GM Marketing and they didn't know. They put me in touch with GM technical and apparently they have no idea as well.

Does anyone at GM know what's going on with the ZL1?

Well my guess is that the ZL1 and SS 1LE will most likely share beefier axles… why do I think this? Well the ELSD has a much wider width then the regular pumpkin, so since these two cars share that item I cannot see them developing two separate axles. So this would not only benefit the ZL1, but would greatly benefit the SS 1LE being that it has less power to worry about. This is just my speculation… But I think it could very well be the outcome.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I am not very familiar with that particular car, but isn't that car supercharged and doesn't it have a lot of modifications? If so they definitely should've bought the heavy duty aftermarket axles to begin with as they are available. I am 99.9% positive the regular axles will not work with the ELSD..

The chat people don't know much if anything about upcoming products. They're meant to help people figure out the basics.

At this time in GM, not much is being said about the upcoming ZL1 and 1LE trims. I'm sure that as soon as they share a little more with us dealers, we will all know.

As I mentioned in another thread a ways back, my buddy has a Gen6 SS he has done some work to (about 650RWHP if my memory serves me correctly) and he is on his second set of axles so I am hopeful they beefed them up in the ZL1 at least as they did in the Gen5. I have 100's of launches in my Gen5 (just short of 800RWHP) and I am still using the stock axles that the car came with. Let's hope GM continues to invest in that.

I got the part numbers for the left and right regular SS axles, if someone has access to the actual GM parts system I would assume the new ZL1 axles are in there...and we could see if the part numbers are different, and look up the eLSD. GM Parts direct doesn't list any 2017 parts yet...

Left axle: 22972610
Right axle: 22972611

Cool.

Where did you find those part numbers? Can you confirm if the SS 1LE has the same part numbers being it shares the ZL1's eLSD?
