the story you got sounds odd. I don't think the dealerships rebuild transmissions. they just replace them with GM rebuilt transmissions.
the fact you changed fluid a week before this failure has me thinking it caused the problem. if it was working fine before, that is too much a coincidence. |

Glad it wasn't serious, I wonder if you only use the M when you know your going to use the paddles, and the use D when your going to cruise awhile would fix that problem. Like use M when your running errands around town speeding up and slowing down regularly, but then using D when you go on long highway trips or even when your going to be on the highway for more than say 10-15 miles. I drive a manual so I really can't help on this much.

Like I said earlier it was too dramatic and quick for a mechanical failure had to be a computer glitch. Intersesting about using M mode though. This forum is full of folks who drive them like manuals not Autos so I'm inclined to think that is BS on the dealers part.
Hard to say though. Glad you are sorted OP must be a relief! |

I leave mine in sports mode all the time without using paddle shifters. Never heard of this before and I am thinking BS on it.

I drove mine for the first 2.5 years in Sport Mode. I use D now as with my tune it shifts plenty quick without resorting to Sport Mode nymore... But I agree seems like dealer BS...

That sensor does the same amount of work no matter what mode you are in. That story is total BS. I bet if you were out of warranty they'd have sold you a transmission.

Being in Sports mode shouldn't have anything to do with failure of a sensor. Sounds like the part just failed; shit happens. Now did you really exceed the rpm limit??

Honestly haven't. I tried the paddles one time and wasn't a fan. I typically would drop it into M mode and let it shift itself. The highest I have turned the motor thus far has been about 4k in 1st -> 2nd. I am somewhat concerned about the dealer taking steps to avoid fixing the problem.. My old Silverado had its transmission replaced under warranty no questions asked a few years ago. As for the story I got the night before I don't know if the tech was in a hurry to get home or something, but he drove it around and said in his "experience" he believed the transmission was shot. He said he talked to GM and they wouldn't authorize a replacement, only a rebuild.

in GM's defense no wonder they didn't want to authorize a new tranny considering the misdiagnosis of the problem. I'm sure that sensor would have been a pretty cheap repair compared to that. I'm sure how the car was driven had little to do with a random failure. On the plus side at least they didn't try to wiggle out of the repair due to your mods

Where is the rev limiter cutoff? I find it strange that there would be a code thrown for any rpm at or below the cutoff point. And in an auto, how would you even overrev past the limiter?
