Question Is 2011 and 2012 good years

thnx moderators for accepting my registration.
someone smashed into me and totalled my sedan, so im waiting on insurance money. i usually dont buy new cars since the values of them go down so much after the first couple of years. so im looking at a replacement, and i really want a new camaro (my last one was a 91 z28). i only want to spend $20k, and from the research ive done so far, that puts me at around a 2011 or 2012 model year if it were to be an SS.
i know the history of TPI and 4L60E but i dunno anything about the new guys.
i tried to do some research but couldnt find a whole lot about differences between these 2 years. if there are differences, and they are just minor, no big deal, but if its something like suspension changes or safety issues that caused a bunch of lemons... so far i havent found anything big, so im assuming they are solid years? thanks

There are no bad years of the 5th gen. Every automobile built has had their lemons. And, as with every automobile built, there are upgrades through the years. Do your homework, don't impulse buy and don't buy off internet or out of state unless you have the means to actually go to the car and drive it. Go find a nice Camaro and enjoy.

Good info here.
In '12 the FE4 suspension was introduced, which were some parts that came from the ZL1. A ton of parts and accessories are available for the 5th Gen. So find the Camaro that you like and have some fun.

I've had my 2011 for right at a year now, I'm pretty happy with it.

2011 1LT, 112,000 miles now. Problem free, except for some broken lug nuts (which I believe were the result of a tire shop overtorquing the nuts), and a passenger presence sensor (a mat that's in the passenger seat, tells the airbags whether or not to arm)... the PPS cost me $1000, so that kind of hurt. However, it's been astoundingly reliable, especially considering how I drive (hard and fast, mostly mountain roads).

I bought my car new in 2012 specifically to get one equipped with the FE4 suspension. FE4 seems a little more stiff and exhibits less body roll. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in ride quality. FE3 equipped cars seem a little more cushy while FE4 cars seem a bit more sporty. Neither is bone jarring on crappy public roads but the differences are noticible.

I have a 12 v6. Only problem I've had is the garage door opener doesn't work.

If you can make the stretch to a 2013 MY, that's really the way to go, especially if you're into the electronics. Navigation, backup camera in the dash rather than the tiny one in the 2012's rear view mirror (2011's didn't come with navigation or backup camera).

As someone mentioned, do your research. If you're going to spend the money, do it right.

Thnx for the reponses. The one thing I am kind of worried about is the blind spots. Does anyone who drives their car day to day have any issue with it or gotten used to it?

For blindspots I got use to it driving my 2011 around. You just have to set up your mirrors correctly and always remember to check all around you. My worst time is backing out of a parking spot if a big truck parked next to me (even in a regular car can't see though those damn things).
