I took ownership of my crystal red C7 (auto trans) on 10-4-13, no problems with a FIRST in my neighborhood STINGRAY model year! I noticed this noise months ago and decided to wait for the 7500 mi checkup/oil change etc... told the service mgr it sounds like gravel in the exhaust system, but not really noticable under load(or at running temps). As expected the tech did not hear the noise and needed to keep it overnight for a cold start check. I now need a new torque tube, takes a week to get the parts and 3 days to install it! This is a major structural part, 'breaking' apart the trany/LT1,, now reading about possible crank damage,,, OUCH! Scheduled install/FIX is next week.
QUESTION: I notice that downshifting (slowing down) using the manual paddle shift, the transmission CLUNKS from 3rd into 2nd gear. Does anybody experience this 2nd gear manual hard shift?? This might have something to do with the problem/failure, Thx, Jim

I also get a clunk from 3rd into 2nd with paddle shifters in my 2014 base. I have not heard any abnormal noises since the noise from before I had the faulty belt tensioner replaced about six thousand miles ago.

No. I didn't notice the clunk from 3rd to 2nd at the time the drive belt tensioner was replaced.

I haven't brought up the issue with the dealership...not sure if it's an issue or normal...

Like a previous post noted: make sure the NEW torque tube comes shipped WITH a drive shaft! Now waiting for the additional part while the trans sits on a lift, car in the air and exhaust on the ground... double ouch!!
PICTURE your NEW car here(below) -the tech said I looked a little bit shocked!

UPDATE: almost 3 months after replacing the torque tube/drive shaft, the MAIN 350A fuse blew (located in the battery compartment) after slowly accelerating from a stop light -- Stingray DEAD in the middle of an intersection!! A few days later, the technician diagnosed the rare LT1 crank imbalance. 3 weeks later, I am back on the road again with a NEW LT1, AND,, another new torque tube/drive shaft. I am running through the 500 mile 'break'-in period again, after seeing everything below the frame on the ground! I'd rather be seen in a dead Corvette, than be caught dead in a Porsche!!!

I'm glad to hear your Stingray is back on the road. Let's hope it's troubles are left behind and you can seriously begin to enjoy it. And you've certainly got the right attitude! Too many people give up after experiences like yours and dump their Stingray for one of the imports (that often times have worse reliability reputations!).
