Nitto tire thoughts/opinions

I had Nitto Invo on my car (before supercharger) in 275/40-20 & 315/35-20 sizes. Not a bad tire, but with the build coming I bought a new set (same sizes) of Nitto NT555 G2. Overall a pretty good tire, but it slipped horribly at the strip. Without going to a smaller rear diameter (I did a big brake kit and don’t want to do the 15” conversion) are you guys finding the newer NT555 R2 or NT05R the better tire for pulls? Which would you prefer for street use? The car is only used on nice days above 50F. Mickey Thompson does have the Street R in 20” sizes, but not a 315.

Thanks.

I run the NT05R in a 315 on my 20" street wheels, I am not in love with them but are decent when warm. I will say I can drive through the rain better with my mickey thompson et street r's better than the nitto... I do believe though that they have discontinued the nt05r and replaced with the nt555rII, unless you find some new old stock nt05r's. I have not used or know anyone with the nt555rII's.

Thank you for the feedback. It’s a shame they don’t make a 315/35-20 Street R.

NP, unfortunately when we go up to a 29" tire there aren't much options. I should have stayed at a 28" tire and went with toyo r888r in a 305/30.

R888rs grip great but man do they wear fast. I had those but buying new every year - ouch. - and they suck in the rain. I have the Nitto NT555 G2s and at least they do ok and much better in the rain. I had the Toyos relegated to track only. Heat cycles on the Toyos were low so that helped.

I’ve not had to buy tires in 3 years - yea…

I have the nitto 555R2 on my car in a 18” setup. They hook great, and ride smooth. Don’t know about the rain cause i don’t drive it in the rain.

One of my Camaro friends is running the NT05R, which have been discontinued, on the rear of his whippled Camaro, stick car. 683rwhp and he likes them when they are warmed up and dry, but on the street if you have ANY kind of moisture he said they really suck, and has to slow down to about 35 or so whenever he gets caught out in any rain. I have read a lot of good reviews on the 555R2's on here, but with your power level, you might have issues with them sticking too.

I have NT555 G2's on the front and 555R2's on the rear for street duty. The 55R2's hook well when dry and warm (GA = most of the time) and haven't been caught in the rain yet. For the track I have MT skinnies up front and 17" Hoosier drag radial slicks for my M6.

Thanks guys. I’m hesitant to do a full drag set up because of the rear brakes. Looks like I’ll try the 555R2 next.
