Gm paint sucks

Purchased my z used with 800 miles on it and there's a lot of dirt in the clear coat that needs to be wet sanded out. There quality control in the paint dept sucks.

I spent over 20 hours polishing my new 2014 1LE.
Truly is a shame they don't do a better job.

Is it dirt or possibly rail rust? My ZL is white and I did have rail rust, I used Auto Spa in Atl to get rid of it.

I haven't noticed dirt in the clear coat. I did notice a few really minor specs mixed in the paint and under the clear, but they don't come through the clear at all. Are you sure its not rail dust that can be taken off with a clay bar?

Is it possible that parts of the car have been repainted?

When I worked at a local GM dealership a few years ago, we repainted alot of panels on "brand new" cars right off the delivery trucks. Either paint flaws, shipment damage, or lot damage....

First I've heard of this in all my time on this forum. I've heard of a few cases of other paint issues such as fish eyes, but not dirt in the clear.

I'd definitely try an iron x treatment before you go wet sanding anything. Iron can look like dirt specks

I had spider webbing if that is what you call it. (A lot of small cracks all bunched together)
On my rear quarter panel after only 1 week of owning my car

My 2013 had half a dozen big chunks in it. I started a diy on removing them last winter. Ran out of time to take photos of results but I can vouch for the dirt. My 2010 was clean.

Mine was all factory dirt. Nothing sprayed on it. Not bitching, though. 25 year bodyman. I know how hard it is to get dust free paint on A car, let alone hundreds a day. It is a daunting task. I think they do pretty good, in general, considering the materials they are constrained to use.

As most people said, a likely scenario is that it was repainted at the dealership.

That's why my next car will be ordered new and I will want the shipping tape on the car still. If it's not there, then no sale. Only way to buy a new car imo.
