Stupid Stupid Decision(involving speed)

I live in the San Francisco bay area. And after being a responsible driver for 16 years.. I wanted to see what my 1LT could do today so I waited for a nice open stretch of Highway and I punched it. Not a smart decision. I got caught at 120mph in a 55mph zone. Firstly, I am so grateful to the officer for not taking my butt to jail and impounding my ride.

This is really out of character to me. Im a pretty conservative guy and I honestly know how incredibly stupid my decision was. I have ridden sports bikes for about ten years now and have always taken my bikes to the track for speed. Not sure what got into me today.

Of course now Im wondering how what kind of discipline is in order for me. Has anyone had any experience with excessive speeding tickets like this one? I feel a storm coming my way. :(

Get a lawyer. Now. Trust me.... been there, done that, have the t shirt. Don't try to handle this yourself. Get a traffic attorney and do what they tell you.

Do yourself a favor and get an attorney, right now.

It will end up costing you less in the long run....

I feel terrible for you. I did those things when I was young. Lawyer for sure and see what, if anything, can be done to help you with insurance. At my age, the fastest my 12 SS ever went was 87. My 15 was 110 at the drag strip, and my 16 is 114 at the drag strip. I never need to see how fast it will go on the highway or street.

I'm not in here to judge. To answer your question, you're license could possibly be suspended. You could get jail time. You could get probation. There's a number of things that can happen depending on the state, county, and judge. Good luck, and don't do it again.

Can't believe he caught up with you.

Is your ticket written up for the 120 mph? Or was he generous and write it up for 90 or something like that? Any other infractions like reckless driving?

Quite sure the consensus would be to contact an attorney ASAP.

Lawyer up, hold on tight, bite the pillow and think of Christmas.

Don't be surprised if you get your license suspended for a minimum of 6 months and a fine into the thousands of dollars. Your insurance is going to spike into the stratosphere too.

Sorry dude, ya done f***ed up...

This is the second thread in as many weeks about people "forgetting" their good sense and now risk serious legal repercussions...think of all the track days that could be had for the amount of fines some people are facing.

This thread falls under our "street racing" rule, and I'll unfortunately have to close it. But given that you're looking for advice, I'll give it about 24 hours....

Chill, I highly doubt there's anybody on here that hasn't sped on a public road before. He made a mistake and admitted to it. Everybody does something stupid from time to time, it doesn't make him an "a$$ hole :thumb down:

To the OP, sorry to hear about your situation. It sucks that you haven't done anything in 16 years, and the one time you do, it bites you in the ass. Definitely get an attorney, no way would I go into this without one. If you were in NY, I could of recommended one. Ask around for recommendations. Be prepared to pay some $$$.

Dang broseph, you are what the French might call "Le****ed".

That's why I say either don't speed, or get a good radar detector and only speed on clear stretches. good luck man.
