Thank goodness i saw this thread. I am on the same boat. I am so undecisive about this. After seeing the 2016 ss which is NA run an 11.9 while a whippled ZL1 does the same makes me go crazy. Im sure itd be cheaper to make power on the Z but crap.... imagine getting boost on a 3700lbs SS that STOCK is capable of doing high 11s...... WHAT DO I DOOOOOOOOOOOO

Compared to the 2012 zl1 m6, the 2016 ss a8 didn't feel as fast or strong but it turned better times on stock tires during the first drag strip session than the zl1 over multiple session and efforts. Including the times run @ the same track with the CAI & ported throttle body on the zl1.

From a visual point of view, the '16 SS seems to transfer weight and nose up better than the zl1, stock.

Zl1 was great, but I wouldn't consider it over a 2ss. The zl1 should be .1 or .2 faster in the quarter, but that's it.

stock vs stock

interior
gen 6 SS

exterior/ looks
I still like the Zl1

Performance
the numbers seem to point to zl1 having a slight edge in some ways but it is not a huge gap.

now mods in the mix the zl1 can just be made a monster easier IMO.

as far a daily who cars they are both really comfortable but if you going for a daily maybe the 6 gen based on a bit newer interior.

the 6th gen is a lighter car but the zl1 is more robust car. IE 9.8" ring gear, stronger shafts, better clutch, etc.

the price point is basically tipping toward the Zl1's favor if you tick the mag ride option on the ss.

I would proabably get the zl1 but if you really like the looks of the Gen 6 I can see tipping that way as well.

A huge factor for me is the looks on the Z. It just screams monster. I like the gen 6 ss looks but that Z front end has my heart. And you're right about the beefier train. I hate undecisiveness

Simple bolt ons will have new SS showing the zl1 its taillights. No need to worry about heak soak or pulling timing. If the track is what you want the 1ss with mrc,big brakes and some nice rubber will more then likely run with or beat a stock zl1. The zl1 is an amazing car but the weight has always been its biggest downfall. It's easier on the your wallet and the car to go faster when the starting weight is much less.

Just a follow up, I ended up getting a 2014 black zl1 3 months ago. Love the car, but ran into a dilemma tonight. I was on a 330 mile road trip, and engine died on me with just under 1/4 a tank of gas. Tow truck came and gave me some gas and it fired right up. Not sure what happened.

Oh no! Still under warranty? Had the previous owner modified it, or had you modified it in any way? Best wishes and here's to it being a minor issue.

100% stock. Got the car with 1,100 miles on it. Previous owner had the car in a garage for a year. Really sucked running out of gas. Cost me 125 bucks for a tow truck driver to put 2 gallons in

Did you run out of gas? Or was it bad gas in the tank?

1. Good reason to have AAA membership...even when you own a new car you never know when you'll need a tow, forget to fill up gas or even just need to use their other services (good discounts).

2. I'm no scientist but if the car sits for that long, doesn't water accumulate at the top of the tank? If so, maybe he hit this water-rich portion of the tank and that's what killed it? That or something is wrong with the pickup sucker thingie in the tank?

The ZL1 is unique whereas the SS will become common. Add the supercharger, unbreakable drivetrain and performance upgrade potential the Z wins as a toy. The new cars interior looks to be far better for every day
Looking back at what I posted last August as the first reply, I choose to go the opposite direction than the OP and am selling my ZL1 for a 2SS (see signature). Reasons given in my earlier post.

The ZL1 is the right choice for a toy, drag, track car but not a daily driver. Cost of supercharger, brakes, tires, ~14 mpg, etc. I find myself wanting to drive the ZL1 everyday but in the end a 2SS, MRC, NPP is the better choice.

Originally I thought I'd have the ZL1 as a toy and pick up a 2SS as a driver in 18. The new SS is much closer to the ZL1 than I ever imagined so I can't wait!

I've been driving the car for 3 months now. Be down to E a few times. I was actually on E when I filled up before leaving L.A. yesterday. After getting 2 gallons from the tow truck, I was only able to get just under 12 gallons into the tank when I got to the gas station 3 miles down the road. When I had filled up before I left L.A. I was able to get a little over 17 gallons in
