Brake cooling deflector kit Part #22944235???

We took delivery of my wife's C7 Z51 at our dealer on Saturday.

Shipped loose with the car were the brake rotor cooling rings and a pair of black plastic molded deflectors. Thanks to a previous posting on this forum I knew what the cooling rings were and should not to be installed unless the car is raced on a track. The deflector kit was packaged with a single page instruction sheet calling it a "Front Lower Control Arm Deflectors Kit". Does anyone know if this deflector kit is for racing only or should it be permanently installed on the car? Dealer was going to try to get a better clarification today.

Thanks

Huh. That's a new one on me. I have the brake rotor rings but didn't get a deflector kit. Picked up my Z51 from the Museum October 4, number 196. They must have started adding that kit later. I'll have to look into that.

Yes, the black plastic front lower control arm deflectors should be installed on Z51 equipped C7's during new vehicle prep regardless of whether or not the vehicle is to be used in competitive driving. The pdi form has a special note stating to install them. See the 3rd note below.

Is there a picture or sketch available showing these ducts so owners can verify they are installed?

Thank you.

Bad pictures, but here are the install instructions. Basically, they are secured to the front of the lower control arms by 4 screws, and stand up just behind the front tie rods. I'll try to get an actual picture, but I'm not sure if we still have a Z51 in inventory.

Thanks for all the reply's. I tried to attach the installation sheet yesterday but must not be doing it right. My dealer did not install them because they didn't have the revised PDI sheet. Have these been on all Z51's from the start of production, a running design change, a part that was in short supply, or did they just forget to install on the assembly line? Can I wait until the first service to get them installed or should they go on before we start putting serious mileage on the car?

I'm not sure if they were supplied from start of production, maybe someone with an early build will chime in... They didn't forget to install them at the plant, they are most likely intended to be installed during pdi so there is no chance of them getting damaged in transit during loading & unloading.

I'm no engineer, but I think as long as your not driving aggressively, or driving for an extended time, you'll be ok installing them at your first service visit.

If you are experiencing any brake fade, get them on asap.

found is another diagram,

SO your only doing track with your Stingray?? As this is only for Track or Competition use and Must! be removed after event as the instructions say.

To urrtoast:

I think you are confusing this thread with the brake cooling rings which should only be installed and used during competitive events as I stated in my original post.

I started this thread only in relation to the "Front Lower Control Arm Deflectors Kit" shown in the above illustration attached by R6P. If you have specific usage instructions for the "Deflector Kit" please post for the benefit of all. Thanks!!

My Vette is #798 and the deflectors were on the car at delivery. I checked them out this morning. They have a gentle curve directing air to the rotors, air that enters from the front. I can appreciate the warning to not install a center lower air dam.

Mine is #196. I checked and it has the deflectors installed. It appears they were either installed on the assembly line or during PDI at the Museum before delivery. My thought is they should be installed by the dealers during PDI (pre-delivery inspection). Don't let them charge you for it!
