Average price for a new car in the USA

Is at $41,000 so a well optioned 2SS for ~50K is not that bad

Last October I decided it would be good time to get a new winter beater for these NC non-winters. So I scored a GMC Acadia At-4. Stickered for $47K and I got it for $38k plus an additional $2k supplier discount I sprung on them at the last minute. I'm glad I didn't wait until now. I'm sure it's dog eat dog out there.

And the median household income in the US is around $69K. That's nearly 60% of household income spent on a car. All that tells you is that most people are stupid.

I feel like high end vehicles pushing that number up. Still plenty of bargains and thats probably where the volume is.

It's fine, just walk in and walk out with zero down and a 8 or 10 year loan and it's all yours. No credit bad credit no problem lol. Yeah absolutely insane that 40k+ is the avg price nowadays. And sorry but a ss Camaro shouldn't cost 50k. And a half ton truck shouldn't cost 60k+ either. They're all overpriced.

Agreed. Paid $33K for my SS brand new.
My brother is a bankruptcy lawyer. Over the years he's told me endless stories of clients earning $50K with $500/mo car payments for 72+ months.
My neighbor was proud of himself for getting his F150 platinum for only $67K b/c it stickered at $75K. LOL.

Shows that most ppl should be buying 2-3 yr old off lease or slightly used cars for 30-40% savings.

In normal times. Hopefully prices are starting to drop it looks like.

Last Sept I bought a 2016 2ss for $31,200. Only 16k miles. has a couple LPO stuff as well and NPP also. A lot cheaper than spending about 47k on a new 2ss when it's the same engine, same everything except A10 but performance wise the 2016 is the same.

When I'm ready for a Zl1 in a couple years I will likely buy used again.

Yes, new car prices are way too much.

Price of cars has jumped more than inflation I think.

A 2ss is not a cheap car. No it's not a BMW but also something a low wage earner wouldn't typically buy.

I've been saying this in almost every EV thread. The EV used car market is not established and there are FAR to many people who simply can not afford to drive a new EV. As the gap between the 1% and the average American gets further apart, the less people there will be to buy even the new EV's. The current used car market is a must for so many people. Who is going to buy a used EV when the battery is 70 - 80% used and needs to be replaced? That would be like buying a used car you know the motor needs to be replaced. People don't do that for the most part.

They can't simply keep extending out the loan terms so people can afford the payments. The auto industry is digging its own grave with the price of these vehicles.

And a Camaro is worth 70k? Lots of them on here.
